I can't figure this out. I am trying to create a polyphonic patch in which the successive notes played are panned alternately to one side or the other. Logically, I would use either the flip flip module, or possibly the control sequencer (with alternate values set high and low) to achieve the control source for this function.

However, these modules are "poly" modules and have no "mono" option, so the module waits for a number of notes to be played that are equal to the amount of polyphony before advancing. I need these control modules to be clocked each time a note is pressed.

Any suggestions?

thanks

Keith

Sounds like a job for the Stat module. There is probably a better way of doing this but might get you started.

Using the status module unfortunately only works as long as voice stealing doesn't occur. Once this kicks in, the round-robin scheme is interrupted and the panning becomes unpredictable.

Here's a robust solution based on a single flipflop module in the FX area communicating with the voices via interslot bus. Because of interslot bus latency, the effective key-on gate has to be delayed by 24 samples, which amouts to 0.25 ms of delay time. I think we can live with that.

I have to specify: This solution is only robust insofar consecutive key-on gates are more than one sample apart (@96kHz). But throughput rate of MIDI is way slower than that, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not close to an editor, so I haven't checked your solutions (and I can't check the one I'm about to suggest), but an alternative solution might be:

Keyboard module/gate output -> logic pulse (as short as possible) -> bus output
bus input -> binary counter (I think this one is easier to understand than flip/flop)

The bus will contain a mix of all gate signals on all voices. The logic pulse is needed because the gate stays high until the note is released.

This may be more expensive than Tim's solution (as I said I can't check), but can be kept all in the voice area, which may or may not be a good thing.
