I just wanted to start a thread to open up interest in remaking the 259.
There seemed to be some progress awhile ago, but nothing as of late.
The 258 has come a long way, but the trail seems to lead to a dead end in
regards to the 259.
Has anyone made any progress???
Would be awesome to get the 259 up and running! |

Been working on this for a couple of years.
I have a specimen in which all circuits work and it sounds very nice.... part of the problem is that I've never had my hands on an original.
However, an E-Mer was kind enough to send me some audio from an original and I'm comparing with the functions of mine to make sure the ranges and everything are within normal...... This is the stage I'm currently at.

Mine is SMT, and sounds like this:

You can see a few other clips on my soundcloud. We're simultaneously improving a few bits here and there, while making these PCBs.
It's been remarkably difficult to know if I should keep posting, or just wait until the run is done, post pics of PCBs. There are always setbacks in R&D.
I get a lot of requests for information about these every month, and I keep a list of people who PMed me.....
Regarding the corrections to the schematic... ahah, actually, I've been meaning to keep a log of those and try to post more info. There are so many little errors. For example, just the switching arrangements for the modulation section are setup wrong... when I first built that, only Sync worked. The mod section is messed up. I couldn't get Symmetry to work correctly until LAST WEEK, when I happened to see an error I had made in redrawing the schematic at the sine wave output on the principal oscillator.....
If you ever wonder how R&D goes so slow, even at gigantic, well-funded companies, and how no one ever meets deadlines.... I recommend trying to R&D a big project some time. This also explains why no one should EVER sell anything if it's not on hand, in stock, ready to go...
