Binary Game Sequencer Subject description: a divider based CV generator... |
 |
|
hi all,
this is what i finished last night. i am still missing the front panel, so the LEDs are not mounted yet...
it is a new kind of an unipolar sequencer, based on a binary counter/divider (4024), instead of a decade counter/divider (4017).
the concept: each divisions output is routed to an attenuator. the divisions attenuated voltages are then summed.
the realization: each divisions output controlls a CMOS switch. these switches have sockets on it's inputs, normalled to +V. so for each division you could use an external voltage also. this voltage is then going to a simple passive attenuator, and is then routed to one or none of the two CV mixers (on/off/on toggle switch).
additionally each division is converted to a trigger and available at a divider output socket.
a step and reset control makes it complete.
taking a look at the pictures below you see for each division from top to bottom: external voltage input, attenuator, routing switch, LED indicator, division trigger output. bottom row is for I/O (clock, reset, CV outputs A & B).
the nice thing is that you create two CV sequences that are related to each other.
schematics, demo and better pictures will follow as soon as i got the front panel... i just had to share.
[edit: photos replaced]

correct, however, "stage" might be describe it better than "step".
BTW today i learned that the blacet binary zone follows a similiar concept, but is bi-polar, without the switches, no external voltages inputs, and w/o the /128 division (stage #7). _________________

I was obviously somewhere else this morning! I get it better now, helped by the panels pic on Muff's, i think I was confused with the binary counting, I went somewhere else, actually seems better now I properly get it _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/

so here is a 1st sample i did. no big deal, just the Binary game Sequencer, the doepfer quantizer, two thomas henry VCOs (555 and 4046) and my LPG. 1min of patching and it sounds like this:

| Listened to this earlier today on my sound cloud subscriptions. Very pleasing to the ears. Had to check this sub forum to what it was all about. Cool idea! |

last night i made a quick video. no time, no light, bad camera, bad vid quality... anyways, it shows the basic functionality and concept, i think.
quick and dirty demo of my new binary sequencer from fonitronik on Vimeo.
(each CV channel to a X4046 VCO. 1st division trigger out to LPG for 1st VCO, 2nd division out to 12db SVF - in the beginning only channel A, later on channel B fades in. switch set to left routes the CV to channel A, to the right channel B, center position OFF) _________________

Hi Matthias
i'd be interested in pcb's if you are doing a run.

i will do a run, if there is enough interest.
i already did a re-design of the circuit board to match the eurorack front panel PCB. they could be mounted piggyback to avoid any manual wiring (however, i know that there are not that much eurorack lovers here, no?).
anyways, i will have to finish two other prototypes first (TH ADSR, and the new fonitronik triple vactrol resonator).

| I'd be interested in a set of boards if you do a run. Particularly interested in it's ability to take external inputs, makes for some very interesting possibilities. |
