Especially the CA3280...

Futurelec, Banzai and Small Bear are out of both.

Bridechamber has CA3046 but not CA3280.

Might need to buy extras as I have heard that there are lots of bad OTAs out there that show up after a "burn in" time. Or maybe someone has 1 x CA3046 and 2 x CA3280 they have tested and are willing to sell?

Thanks!!!
Derek

Hi Derek,

I know a (quite expensive) UK source for both ICs:

http://www.cricklewoodelectronics.com/Cricklewood/home.php

They want £2.50 for the CA3046 and £9.00 for the CA3280. I can't vouch for these ICs, but I have bought other "hard to find" ICs from them and they've been fine. They appear to be in stock, but it might be worth e-mailing them first to double check.

Hi Gary, and thanks!

Those prices seem close to these guys:

Might get the 3046 from Bridechamber along with some other rare things and bite the bullet on the 3280s.

Best!
D.

Looks like Tayda electronics has the 3046 for $1.10, but I don't know whether it's legit or not. Anybody had any experience with these guys?

I ordered from tayda the 3046, they are good.
Test them with the ody vco and bergfotron wave shapers.
the same results as my RCA ones Smile

I have bought many things from tayda and not had a problem yet, though I don't believe I've ordered this particular chip.

I've also ordered from Tayda (once). The only problem that I've had was a couple of suspect LEDs (but I may have just fried them by accident). Mind you, for the prices they charge for LEDs, it doesn't really bother me if one or two don't work!

I could offer 2 CA3280 but never heard of the 'burn in' time issue. I have a finished MOTM-190 in which I can test them but how much 'burn in' time is needed then?

Thanks! I think I have the 3280s covered now. If not, I'll let you know.

Some people have reported failure on these chips after a certain number of hours (eight maybe?). I think it depended very much on the source. Can't find the thread at the moment, maybe Search or Google is your friend here...

Well, if you want people to test you have to provide this information. Laughing

My solution was just to find extras. Honestly I think this figure can vary a lot. Use is the only test. Best!!!!! D.
