EDIT: I think I posted too soon... The baby foetus delicacy I was linking to appears to have been a hoax.

Carry on. Laughing

I want everyone to know that I am not cavalier to the process by which I receive necessary nourishment from animal creatures.

I get it.

This being the bacon thread - I will say that I honor the pig, the wonderful creature that produces such a thing without knowing it at all.

I don't think it's cool that we have to kill animals to get these things.

I love animals.

I've had 4 dogs now, and I've fallen madly in love with each one. Each has been an amazing new experience for me.

However

(and you should have expected this)

I still love bacon.

San Francisco Bacon Restaurant Closes after Neighbors Complain of Smell

Quote:
While some people may firmly believe that there’s no such thing as too much bacon, a neighborhood in San Francisco begs to differ. A bacon restaurant — aptly named Bacon Bacon — was forced to close its doors earlier this month after its Upper Haight neighbors’ complained about the overwhelming bacon aroma exuding from the restaurant. The complaints revealed a permitting issue that, according to the San Francisco Examiner could not be overcome in a timely manner, forced the restaurant to shutter its operations. A public hearing must be held before Bacon Bacon can continue operating, but one may not be scheduled until July, Planning Department officials said.

Here's a picture (not a very good one) of the "Flitch of Bacon" in the Dan Yr Ogof caves of south Wales (actually a bit too Disneyfied for my liking). I hope that this can be appreciated by anyone on the carnivore to vegan scale...

I thought this article was interesting, especially since Bachus told me the idea is ridiculous earlier in this thread. Maybe not.

The fact is, we really don't know that much about plants because they don't talk (or react overtly to what might be pain).

Now it appears that some scientists have done research that may show that plants are aware of some things we should give them credit for.

Here's the link, judge for yourself.

For me personally it comes down to a question of central nervous system versus no central nervous system. A tropism doesn't count as pain. However, I eat fish, and if I were inclined towards guilt, I'd feel guilty.

I think they should explore means of using sound waves to encourage the super rich and powerful to, say, stop being such assholes. Shocked

Maybe I need to start a seafood thread Smile (no fishy emoticons here).

Would the sound wave behind a bullet do?

Only non-violence for pigs and politicians for me. Very Happy

Quote:
Phil Ochs' testimony:
MR. KUNSTLER: After you arrived in Chicago did you have any discussion with Jerry Rubin?
THE WITNESS: Yes, I did. We discussed the nomination of a pig for President.
MR. KUNSTLER: Would you state what you said and what Jerry said.
THE WITNESS: We discussed the details. We discussed going out to the countryside around Chicago and buying a pig from a farmer and bringing him into the city for the purposes of his nominating speech.
MR. KUNSTLER: Did you have any role yourself in that?
THE WITNESS: Yes, I helped select the pig, and I paid for him.
MR. KUNSTLER: Now, did you find a pig at once when you went out?
THE WITNESS: No, it was very difficult. We stopped at several farms and asked where the pigs were.
MR. KUNSTLER: None of the farmers referred you to the police station, did they?
THE WITNESS: No.
MR. FORAN: Objection.
THE COURT: I sustain the objection...
MR. KUNSTLER: Would you state what, if anything, happened to the pig?
THE WITNESS: The pig was arrested with seven people.
MR. KUNSTLER: When did that take place?
THE WITNESS: This took place on the morning of August 23, at the Civic Center underneath the Picasso sculpture.
MR. KUNSTLER: Who were those seven people?
THE WITNESS: Jerry Rubin. Stew Albert, Wolfe Lowenthal, myself is four; I am not sure of the names of the other three.
MR. KUNSTLER: What were you doing when you were arrested?
THE WITNESS: We were arrested announcing the pig's candidacy for President.
MR. KUNSTLER: Did Jerry Rubin speak?
THE WITNESS: Yes, Jerry Rubin was reading a prepared speech for the pig---the opening sentence was something like, "I, Pigasus, hereby announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the United States." He was interrupted in his talk by the police who arrested us...
MR. KUNSTLER: Do you remember what you were charged with?
THE WITNESS: I believe the original charge mentioned was something about an old Chicago law about bringing livestock into the city, or disturbing the peace, or disorderly conduct, and when it came time for the trial, I believe the charge was disorderly conduct.
MR. KUNSTLER: Were you informed by a police officer that the pig had squealed on you?
THE WITNESS: Yes.

So do I, but I don't eat it knowing the cruel way in which they are raised in factory farms. It is unconscionable.

Perhaps listening to the Grunt will melt you steely cold heart. (Really, I know your heart is closer to 98F. You are not cruel You just look away from the suffering involved in each crunchy bite. The pain and deprivation are left unseen. So much easier to close the eyes than close the mouth in the face of the Almighty BLT.)

Being involved vs being committed is like the difference between the pig and the chicken when it comes to bacon and egg pie -- the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed!

More seriously, I've had 3 packs of bacon sitting in the freezer for the last few months... I'm pretty meh on it.
