Need advice - sold a synth on Ebay... Subject description: but an issue popped up during final test run |

So what happened was I sold a Yamaha CS5 synth on Ebay. I decided to give it a quick final test run before boxing it in but I noticed that some keys retrigger. Now what should I do? Let the buyer find out and risk a negative comment and bad rating or jeopardize the sale and let the buyer know about it? Should I offer the buyer to return say 10% of the price for something that could be an easy fix? I know I sound stupid but i have never been in this kind of situation before. I need the money right now because I'm broke and rent is due. My life sucks grrrr.. |

Yea I kind of figured that. But how should I proceed now? Tell him up front or let him find out? I don't have the time and patience nor the skills to fix the problem and I consider to return a percentage of his payment if he sticks with the synth but I don't want to take the risk of the buyer stepping back from the purchase. I desperately need the money. |

I would take it apart and fix it
Otherwise I would tell him there is a minor problem and offer to give him a part refund, ideally before you send it
If you do it before sending it it will be more risky, in that he may say he doesn't want it, but if you wait 'til he gets it and finds out you may still get it back if he doesn't want it and then you've both wasted money sending/returning it _________________ Jez

Be upfront with the customer. It's no less then what you would want if the roles were reversed, right? Explain the situation, tell him/her that you are going to try cleaning the contacts (or are having a local tech do it) and let the buyer decide what to do. they may decide to take care f it themselves if they are tech-savie. Things crop up when selling vintage gear. I've found that being right upfront with the customer has always been the right thing to do. _________________ Dave

What I would do is take a little off the price, 10% at the least, explain the situation and also explain what they can do to clean it if you don't have time to. _________________ Check out my blog:
