Powering SL Mini-Synth & 10-step sequencer Subject description: Hope to use one Wall Wart Supply |
|
|
I'm making the mini-synth and 10-step hoping to power them both with one 12V Wall Wart Supply via banana jacks. The 10-step requires 12V dual supply, so I'm good there, but I'm wondering how I can use this same supply for the mini-synth. What is the most efficient way (if it's feasible) to supply 12VDC dual supply and 9VDC dual supply from one Wall Wart Power Supply? Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions? Thanks!
Edit: I think after doing a little research that I'll just build two power supplies; but still open to suggestions. Thanks again! |

If these two are the ONLY things you plan to power, I would imagine it would be feasible to run 7809/7909 regulators off the 12V supply from the WWPS, and power the SLMS from there.
I run an SLMS off dual 9V batteries and they seem to last a long time, which tells me that there's not a lot of current draw, since 9V are notorious for not having a lot of milli amp hours.
Edit: I don't think there's anything on the SLMS that should complain about a 12V supply either; if you want really tight V/Oct tracking on the oscillators (well, if you want REALLY tight tracking you need another synth but in a relative sense) you may have to adjust some of the resistances in the expo converter. |

Thanks elmegil, I'm going to go with separate supplies only because I'm building this for someone else. But I think you're right about supplying 12V to the SLMS; gonna do some experiments with it before attaching the 9V supply. Thanks again! |

Hi there ,
i originally ran my soundlab from +/- 12v and there was a good hot audio output level but the tracking veered off wildley up the octaves, worked fine for crazy noises etc.
After i rebuilt my main modular power supply i made a +/- 9v supply for my soundlab++ and it tracks not bad (2x - ssm2210p ) nearly 5 octaves ,
the general volume level was lower on the new supply, so i knocked together a simple cgs stompbox level shifter on stripboard and it is nice and punchy now
