So... I finally got fed up with constantly patching my modular, even for the simplest of patches, when I had the idea of internally routing signals without creating an internal rats nest.

I'm surprised that I've not seen this idea anywhere considering it's such a simple thing to do.

Get a long piece of stripboard (I've ordered 2 pieces 119x455 from Rapid), and for every module you have, solder in a 0.1 pin header socket (BLK 36 way Pin Header, for example). Find a way to mount the stripboard underneath your row of modules (I'm using good old aluminium angle).

Grab a bunch of Arduino jumper leads (male to male) and solder one end to the output socket of your module, and insert the other into the header socket to set up a simple matrix... ahh, you see where I'm going with this now, don't you Smile

Do this to all the module outputs, then solder leads onto the switch side of the module inputs - Now, by simply plugging in the Arduino jumpers into the relevant output strips, you can pre-patch the internal routing to some degree, but still override the socket with an external patch cable.

Too simple? Stupid idea? I realise it may not be practical for large systems, but for a small portable 6U, it may be ideal.

I'm going to try it anyway (no idea what crosstalk will be like though)

with a bit of time and microprocessor programming, using this method, you can make "presets"
