Just posting a link to the Kemper Profiling Amplifier gear news item in case you pickers missed it. For me it was the most exciting item at NAMM this winter Smile

It seems I'm the only one interested in this... However, since I think it's pretty rad and definitely the most exciting thing to have happened in amp modelling, I'll go on for a bit Smile

Found this rather good interview with Cristoph Kemper. Their site is being worked on and there's now a FAQ there.

It looks like a cool device definitely. Personally, I think I'd be more interesting in hearing what a profile of a broken phone speaker or would sound like. Smile

Absolutely! I would think that any non time/delay based signal chain can be profiled. I also think it's fresh and exciting that this box does not come from the guitar establishment - in any case, it's use does not have to be limited to guitars only. It also has a built in multi-fx, which they don't say a lot about, but it looks like the new style where you can freely arrange a sequence of fx.

I can feel the GAS pressure rising...

It looks like a great product for those who already have very nice guitar amps like a 1970s Marshall, a 1960s tweed Fender, a Dumble, etc. but do not want to take such valuable amps on the road with them. One could "sample" (or, in their parlance "profile") the amp into the Kemper then have all the character (theoretically) of the amp in digital form on the gig.

I've heard that a library of profiles - for those that just want the Kemper but can't afford a preexisting collection of boutique/vintage amps - is in the works.

The Kemper kind of reminds me of the Two Notes Torpedo which is a very expensive but reportedly very high quality speaker simulator - except the Torpedo only has speaker and mic models, not amp models.

That's a big selling point, of course. It should be easy for them to rapidly expand that library too. What is really exciting is that there will most likely be a user community sharing all kinds of amp and who-knows-what-else -profiles and patches (presumably there are 'patches' with profiles, amp settings, fx config etc.).

Just thought I would say I have had one of these for a while.

It's absolutely fantastic, by far the best bit of guitar related gear I have ever purchased.

Highly recommended.

They also do a version with a 600W power amp in for driving cabinets.

An endorsement! Shocked Wink

BTW, Bill Ruppert profiled some of his VG-99 sounds for Kemper.

What Bill Ruppert showed is that the Kemper can do more than profile guitar amps - it can also profile synths (eg. the VG-99 synths). So now there is a way to access those synth tones with any guitar if you have a Kemper - no special pickup required.

He got a good banjo out of it as well: https://soundcloud.com/bill-ruppert/kemper-banjo-effect.

The man is a master of guitar units!
