Mixer needed for 2 filters? |
|
|
Hi,
I am building a synth with two filters.
Here is my question:
Can I just add the two outputs of each filter or do I have to build a mixer, even if I don´t want to adjust the volume of each filter since I got a "reverse crossfade" (one input to two outputs) before the filters?
Hope someone of you could help me. |

If you want to combine the two filter outputs into one signal path, the "proper" thing to do would be to just use a normal crossfade (two inputs to one output) after the filters. I don't see a reason to put a reverse crossfade before the filters.
But to do it your way yes, you need a mixer (you never want to connect two outputs directly together), but it could be as simple as a 100k resistor on the output of each filter depending on what you're connecting it to. You might want a buffer to make it more flexible in a modular system.
If you're going from the filters to a VCA, the Yusynth VCA has two inputs that are mixed at the input buffer so you wouldn't even need to do anything extra, just connected each of the filter outputs to one of the inputs. _________________ My synth build blog: http://gndsynth.blogspot.com/ |

Thank you!
I was thinking a bit in a wrong direction.
You are right, a crossfade after both filters would make more sense.
Thank you again! |
