I like chuck. it's cool. While searching through the various web links and pages for the Bowed instrument I found some interesting things alluding to instrument presets, including Glass Harmonica and Tibetan Bowl.

http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/doc/program/ugen_full.html

Like all cool things, there is no real help in the examples for this kind of information.

Can someone shed some light on how I might go about incorporating the awesomeness of a glass harmonica or tibetan bowl for a project...? Or am I destined to never truly know...

thank you muchly... Very Happy

welcome gersart!

Have a look at examples/stk/mode-o-matic.ck

Search for the string "preset" in there. It uses another UGen (ModalBar), but the principle should be the same.

Preset is just another input on the UGen, like freq or gain. According to the docs, the glass harmonica preset is found in the BandedWG UGen, and you would set that like this:

BandedWG waveguideOscillator;
2 => waveguideOscillator.preset; // 2 for glass harmonica

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I've explored quite a bit over the last little while, including figuring out how to make my own classes for instruments. I also discovered the usefulness of the presets (I was trying to use the BandedWG presets in the Bowed class, which wasn't working quite right)

It's very much an exploration of techniques. I kind of wish I could find some examples of the different bowed instruments to understand how the values change the character of the instrument (what makes a cello different than a violin, for instance)

More research is necessary, I guess.
