I have no clue about how I can get my Controller power-supplied via my interface, as I want it to SEND Midi into my Interface.

Hmm ... maybe use the other MIDI cable for that?

(with a diode and a buffer capacitor)

No idea if it could supply the current needed though Confused

I am not a Mac person, but I did use a gameport/midi cable to route midi data to and from an arduino. That was last summer and I don't have the +5, TX, and RX pins memorized. They are on the web somewhere. I have some links and will try to find them. (Found one. See below.)

Also, I used a steering wheel type gameport controller (with levers, buttons, and pedals) with some software under Windows XP to generate midi data. I am not sure what software I used, but it involved a Windows utility for setting up alternate controllers. I am pretty sure the software to convert the controller to midi data was just for Windows, but I will try to remember what it was just in case there's Mac software too.

If your Mac doesn't have a gameport, I don't think the other gear will help, though you might be able to build something with a microcontroller (not really my area of expertise, though I have dabbled with an arduino for a few things).

If the midi/gameport cables are like mine, they will only connect to the TX, RX, and +5 pins of the gameport connector. If I am right, you will have to figure out how to get the other pins connected.

Interesting project!.

Steve

Here's the one I used:

Hmmmm. My reply seems to dangle in mid air; I should have used /quote /unquote.
To summarize (please correct me if I am wrong): "We Buy Junk Cars" posted three pictures: (1) a game controller design for a sound card game port, (2) a game port to midi cable, and (3) a multi channel audio/midi interface (firewire). Also, listed were two pieces of Mac software which looked like they would map various things, such as controllers to midi. The questions as I recall were: (1) how to hook them up so as to use the game controller as a midi device and (2) how to set up the software.

Steve

I believe the two pieces of software were: (1) http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/ and (2) http://www.arj.no/2008/02/25/multicontrol-v04/
