I just made some changes to my mad scientist laboratory. I now have the following equipment:

Microkorg
Yamaha PSR-520 (superb rompler)
Casio CZ-101 (MIDI'd to PSR to provide better keys)
Minibrute
Microsampler (traded Micron for it)
Boss BR-600 recorder
HP Netbook (used only for patch editors and libraries, not for sequencing)

With the exception of the PSR-520, everything is miniature. I think that is so cool.

I don't want to endure all the hassles of live performance anymore but it sure would be fun to make symphonic walls of sound with a collection of gear that fits on a card table.

I have a few other pieces of equipment that mostly just collect dust.

Yes, I traded the Alesis Micron. It had some nice sounds but I just never personally liked the board. It always felt like a chore to use. Time dragged when I played it. With all my other boards time flies way too quickly. They are all like delightful toys.

I don't mean to disparage the Micron. It's well built, very capable and has thousands of enthusiastic fans. It's just not for me.

Autumn is coming and I'll be going into high creative gear. I expect to use the Microsampler to create rock-solid initial rhythmic lines then flesh things out with the Microkorg and CZ. Lead lines will probably be dominated by the Minibrute. I love the "electronic drums" on the PSR and its "xenon pad" is one of my favorite atmospheric sounds. The PSR also has an orchestra of sounds waiting to be fed through my numerous filters. And I'll probably program more drums with the BR-600 rhythm editor, like I did on "boop."
