Hello, perhaps a shot in the dark here but I am repairing a technics SZ-E2 expression pedal for a friend - I narrowed the problem down to being the thread dying in the potentiometer

The pedal uses a 20k pot with the number 912h on it - which I had hoped would be the package id. but I'm not getting any google results

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement pot for this pedal or an equivalent?

If it looks like a standard pot then replace it with one from Mouser or your local electronics store that matches it's specs (20k), or order a replacement from the manufacturer of this particular pedal.
