$1399 is the number I've seen.

Allegedly only 200 available for North America and under 1000 worldwide.

But I could buy 4 or 5 Korg Littlebits kits (or a dozen Patchblocks)* for around half that sum, make 100x more noise and have 1000x more fun...

...without having to worry about my precious, rare, limited edition, cost-me-a-months-wages object of desire getting a nasty little scratch Crying or Very sad

*edit: or a complete Volca set

Actually, I think the new keytar looks fun. Has the Microkorg XL synth engine and dual ribbon controllers - one under the keys!

I like the keytar too, nice ribbons, arpeggiator and quite a nice sound Smile

Don't get me wrong - I don't dislike it. But is it really such an all-time classic, or just Korg milking / hyping their back catalogue?

I've considered buying a keytar more than once. The problem with them (IMHO) is, that while they may look the height of futuristic cool when they're lying in front of you, they do tend to take on something of an accordion-like quality and can make you look a bit of a dork, when you actually strap one onto yourself Sad

I take pride in being a dork, so no worries about looking like one for me..

But I'm not as pretty as her!

I have a couple of keytars, my favourite is my old Roland Axis

Never managed to use it live though, but I'm not dead yet Smile

Ah, but she's got ladybits - so it doesn't apply*

It's called The Curse of Herbie Hancock (apparently) and is based on the premise that Herbie Hancock is the only male who can ever look cool playing a keytar - although a cure may have been discovered.
