I was thinking of some ways to switch digital signals using gates, and one thing I came up with was this 4 NAND gate configuration which acts like a
digital switch. You could use a mux or some bilateral switches (4016/4066) to do the same (although with those switches you would need an extra inverter)
but if you don't have the right chip you could use this. Just keep in mind that unlike the (analog) muxes/switches it only works for digital signals and in 1
direction. I took some care in selecting which gate to use where (a,b,c,d) so that it's easy to build as you can see from the stripboard example. Cool

note: I used a CD4093, but a CD4011 should work aswell
