Hi! I'm new here. Very Happy
I've been on the muffwiggler forum for some time now, and since I'm getting more and more into diy I thought this is the right place for me.

I recently started to build a echo rockit. (not finished yet....I ran out of parts...) And since I very rarely come by these parts I'm wondering: Why are there bibolar electrolytic caps used for dc blocking?
Are they for this specific purpose better than e.g film caps? and if so why?

Also: Is it ok to replace the tantalums with regular electrolytic caps?

welcome okelk

They provide a cheap way to get large values, so it is a compromise. you can use two polarized electroytics of double the value put back to back (+ to + or - to - .. does not matter) to make a non polarized one.

For analog audio stuff that'd be fine.

Thanks!

Hm..that was why I was wondering...It totally makes sense that there is a 10uF bipolar cap, but the 1uF bipolar caps made me wonder...
Where I buy my stuff they don't even have bipolar electrolytics that small and 1uF foil capacitors are much cheaper...

That's what I did for the large 10uF one. seems to work fine. it's 11uF now though (22uf+22uf).

I don't see any reason why foil caps shouldn't work...I guess I will just try and see how it works...

Sure, other caps will work too.
