Good info!
I've been etching a ton of boards using muriatic and hydrogen peroxide without salt, if the salt helps to dissolve more cu that would wring some more life out of the solution.
It's cheap anyway but still...

Hi.

The problem I have is getting hold of the H2O2. You used to be able to buy it easily in any chemist's shop, but after the liquid bomb plot, nobody seems to want to sell it anymore. Perhaps I just look like a dodgy character Twisted Evil . I've seen it on sale on the internet, so I could try one of those suppliers.

It seems to make sense from the chemistry point of view. You have an acid (acetic) plus an oxidant (H2O2). Copper doesn't dissolve much in acid unless there is an oxidant present (nitric acid works as it's both an acid and an oxidant and does dissolves copper, but that gives off toxic NO2 gas). The chloride ions help as they they bond to the copper and form [CuCl4]2- ions (a nice green colour as well) and these are very stable in aqueous solution.

So that's what happens Very Happy
You can still buy 30% H2O2 overhere, they just have to order it. It's been a while since I bought a bottle though, since you only need a drop each time (well, about 50ml). I go through a lot of bottles of muriatic though (500ml bottles, and I use about 250ml each batch).
