Umm, what gave you that idea?
To be honest, at this point, I'm probably going to make all three variants... The multi-voice boards will be first, since I'm pretty much done with them already. I still have to decide about the potentiometers, board sizes and mounting holes for the individual voices... _________________ Once you start down the modular path, forever will it dominate your destiny!

Two things need to happen before I make new boards. 1) This batch of MB-808's has to be out the door, and 2) I want to build prototypes of each new board before I order and ship the final versions. I'll be back from my business trip in mid October, so I'm hoping to get the MB-808's out the door by the end of October. (/me crosses his fingers for luck.)
That said, I'm hoping for November some time. Of course, all of us developer types are optimists... _________________ Once you start down the modular path, forever will it dominate your destiny!

I´m not in a hurry,no problem here.
Are there some leftovers for the next MB808 run or are all boards/kits spoken for? Maybe I should jump on this train...
Kind regards

All of the third batch kits are spoken for. I'll be making a fourth batch of kits, since I had to buy parts for 250 kits. (For example, the minimum order quantity for the colored switches was 1000, and each kit takes four.)
If the fourth batch is anything like the third, I'll have a bunch of people on the waiting list, but only about a quarter of them will actually buy... _________________ Once you start down the modular path, forever will it dominate your destiny!

Roughly speaking (it depends on the cost of pcb manufacturing, and I won't find out the final cost until I actually place the order) the kit from me is about $200, and you'll need about $150 of parts from Mouser or likesuchas, plus a toroid for the power supply. The one I use is about $30 from Digikey. That will get you a fully functioning 808 sound generator with MIDIbox sequencer.
After that, you'll need some kind of case. Most of the guys have been getting a Hammond 1456RL1 and then having Front Panel Express cut the holes and either having the top silkscreened or printing an overlay to stick on... _________________ Once you start down the modular path, forever will it dominate your destiny!

Anybody have a DR110 I can borrow?

The 808 is active high, and the DR-110 is active low, so you have to invert the signal. You can use a transistor for every trigger or a couple of 4069 (each will invert 6 triggers).
Also the DR-110 have a trigger output (is activated with the accent) that you can use as is, without any mod. _________________ Sebo

Hi Sebo.
I see the microlarge site is down.
As i understand you did the 3 big boards?
Do you maybe have the PDF files and all the info about this project?
If you do please can I get them form you?
I really want to start this project.
Cheers,
Isak E.
EDIT:
did you eventually used the http://www.msc175.de/ as a sequencer module?
assuming you used http://www.msc175.de/ midi module, i see in your youtube vid you play from comp sequencer, is it directly from your sound card midi out to the midi in of the module? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mgmtrance |

Hi thanks.
It's the first time I hear on this thing, how does it work?
How do I pull info from there?
Thanks again! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mgmtrance Last edited by isak on Fri Jun 20, 2014 3:09 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Go to: https://archive.org/web/
enter a URL that isn't working into the search bar top center.
If they have an archive of it, they'll show you all the different snapshots they have of that site. Sometimes you have to go back a ways to get the info you're looking for. |

Finish? Hahahaha.
I have a completed BD and Snare--the Snare is not a stripboard, but just laying it out on protoboard from the schematics--and a 2/3's completed hats and cymbal and cowbell (they all go together since they share a noise source). I have my "voice box" stickered and drilled and a power supply and accent circuit (though I'm having some doubts about the supply's capacity at this point). And I have a couple weak attempts at a sequencer--one using and Arduino, and one I was encouraged in by someone else that could still turn into a real sequencer using a PIC. Neither of them is very far along though.
So I need to figure out
1) how to mount all the boards in the box
2) whether my power will be sufficient
3) when I'm going to finish it around a LOT of other projects, including three TTSH ARP 2600 clones that I haven't even started
I will eventually finish, but I doubt before I'm 50. |

Dont worry friend, 50 is the new 30
Do you think the MFOS wall wart PSU will do for the 808 modules?

That's the question, because that's exactly what I have in my voice box. I'm not sure, since I've only used it to run three voices so far.
I suspect what will be important is the current capability of the wall wart. Here's why I say that:
I recently refitted a Napa Valley 96 CD case to be a Eurorack case, and I tried using Frequency Central's wall wart supply which is very similar to Ray's. It uses a 1A wart, and I found that I could not drive two full 106HP rows with it, particularly with a Dual Mirror Core VCO (everything else seemed to tolerate the voltage falling down around 10V).
I ended up building a variant on Thomas Henry's supply from Analog Synth for the 21st Century, using LM317/LM337 so I could adjust the rails to be exactly +/-12V. I used a transformer with a fair bit more current capability and it works great now. |

that's strange.
i build this synth...
it haves...
11 modules
4 multipliers
it runs under MFOS wall wart perfectly. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mgmtrance |
