Hi everyone!,

I recently purchased my shiny new G2X! Still playing around and learning as I go - this forum is a really useful place to learn Smile

Quick query - what kind of levels are people getting from their line outputs - I am recording mine on an M-Audio Audiophile and I get levels of about -20dBu on a very simple patch (ie straight osc -> out). Isn't line level meant to be -10dBu or +4dBu? Or has Clavia given heaps of headroom for amplitude peaks due to resonances etc ?
Another weird thing is that on headphones I can only faintly hear the synth when the output knob is half way - perhaps a calibration problem with the volume pot?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Chris.

seems normal behaviour, I was also worried the first couple of days after I got my G2.. especially next to my Kawai K5000S it's extremely quiet, I also had problems getting it louder than -15db on the inputs of my Multiface. however, the noisefloor is pretty low with the g2 as well, so it's no problem to pull it up a bit with a preamp, can get that extra character it's sometimes lacking as well.

So long as the output module isn't clipping, the G2 won't clip. So you can crank the patch level knob to full and also activate the +6db pad on the output module to get full volume if you need to.

welcome to electro-music.com, Chris, and congratulations on your new G2X. Cool

Note that on a new patch, the default is for the output to be set at -7.3 dB. This seems like a reasonable figure to me. This can be adjusted from the Patch Settings (upper right button on the G2X control surface).

The G2 has a lot of headroom for muktiple slots or voices...
A single monophonpatch can be boosted a lot...

I think its over 12 db in relation to a plain osc output with max patchlevel.
