Goodbye Blue Sky Subject description: Godley & Creme
Goodbye Blue Sky by Godley & Creme.
This is one of my desert island albums.
It's not e-m but it's strange and beautiful. Very. On both counts.
On the surface it's the experimental art-school half of 10cc doing an album about the end of the world, kind of.
But the accompaniment is what makes this album startlingly unique.
First, there is a two-man team of harmonica virtuosos.
Second, there is a gospel-quality male chorus.
WTF? Precisely.
What one might think would make for a distractingly strange sonic combination, instead creates a new kind of music.
And the songs are gems. All of them are enjoyable and some are pure magic.
I've had the LP for years and managed to find a CD before rarity drove the price through the roof. I won't part with either of them. Good luck finding one.
This is the kind of top notch music you used to find on Passport Records.
Remember Passport Records?

Found this album while searching for random stuff by Gruff Rhys on Spotify - it's a kind of compilation or soundtrack made by various artists, somehow related to Pete Fowler's Monsterism work.
Adding the spotify link here even though I suspect most don't use Spotify - maybe you can find it elsewhere. Unfortunately it isn't on youtube in its entirety, you can find a couple of tracks there but the kick I get out of this album is the whole feel with sporadic narration by a booming cartoonish voice, and evocative titles to the tracks. Also, knowing previous work by Fowler (mainly covers to Super Furry Animals albums) I keep seeing these weird cartoon creatures in my head while listening.
It's a very cute album. I think, if you're familiar with stuff I've done, it won't come as a surprise that I love this. _________________ Antimon's Window @soundcloud@Flattrhome - you can't explain music

I hadn't realized that the first "Sounds of Monsterism Island" album seems to be in its entirety on youtube. It's a compilation of nice old stuff, some of which I've heard mentioned here on the forum!
Excellent! I love exploring new music these days, and some good starters on the tube sends you off to more wonderful discoveries
My turn then. Two of Rupert Hine's early records which are quite different from the stuff he made later: "Pick Up a Bone" and "Unfinished Picture" from the early 70s.

I never really followed any of the individual artists, but have just been listening to the various samplers I picked up in the early '90s - some real gems in there that I'd forgotten. _________________ It may stop, but it never ends.
