i am working on it. the new layout gives me some headaches, though. it might be necessary to connect the circuit PCB and the controller PCB with ribbon cables...

I've been wondering this too. Good to hear it's still going.

I've been playing with a homebrew 4024 divider connected to either the Barton VCA/Mixer or a matrix mixer and having loads of fun with the sequencing and chopping up possibilities so definitely up for this when it's ready.

yes good to hear its still going
ribbon cables hmm not quite as nice as the usual headers but if things just wont line up right then so be it ,
had to do something similar with one of hexinverters postman EG's
last weekend (16HP euro panel) I etched a single layer panel board for it so no way could i line it all up for headers , so lots of cabling all running through 3 x 10mm holes in the panel board , couldnt go round the outside too close to the panel size. It didnt save me any cabling but it did suit the 9mm pots i had on hand and made board mounting a whole lot easier.

Hello Matthias.
Smile
Are you still thinking of doing a small run of these binary boards ?

I'm still very interested in 2 pcb's only , if you decide to do some.

Thanks
Dave.

okay, here it is. however, the schmatic has no comments/notes, and the encoder section is not tested yet.

Thanks Matthias.

need to source an encoder & max313cpe then the breadboard comes out.
Was there a particular number of notches / pulses rotary encoder you had thought about using ?, I have never wired one up before but im sure it will be easy Smile .

Dave.

since this is an 8 bit system we have 254 possible stages. and if you wanted to 'move' to a paticular stage (i.e. for mixing purposes) you don want to use a momentary switch. it would be boring to push that button 250 times, no?
so i just wanted to wire the encoder as a 'rotary momentary' switch (or on/off). the rising edge of each encoders gate will then converted to a short pulse, triggering the divider IC.
so no special requirements on that encoder, it just has to be an incremental one IIRC.

I have been doing some price checks for UK stocked MAX313 and I have been seeing prices from about £7 to £14 per chip , I did a search on Rapid for quad analog switch and this came up , the specs seem fairly close on the PDF's ..... http://www.rapidonline.com/electronic-components/dg411dj-spst-analogue-switch-slx-82-0284

DG411 is 'NC' (normally closed), whereas the MAX313 or DG412 is 'NO' (normally open).
so you could use a DG412. the MAX313 is just newer, faster, with less on resistance.
