Hi,

I'm having a problem getting a CGS24 gate/trigger converter to work with an Arturia Beatstep. THe Beatstep is outputing what looks like a squarewave of around 5v but won't trigger my Hexinverter Neinohnein kick drum. I thought it might need a bit of conditioning to trigger so used a CGS24 but the CGS24 doesn't output anything when connected to the Beatstep. Iv'e checked the CGS24 using a 8 step sympleseq sequencer and it's working with that, so nothing wrong with the circuit.

I'm wondering if the USB bus powered Beatstep doesn't pump out enough current to work with the CGS24? Is there someway I can up the gain or something to make it work? Any ideas welcome at this point.

cheers,
col.

The CGS24 should trigger at around 2V I think, the Arturia outputs 8V so it should in theory work. Does the Arturia only not work with the neinohnein - I mean does it trigger other modules in your system without the CGS24?

sorry for asking the obvious, but are the grounds of those machines connected?

sorry was away for a bit. I finally fixed the issue by implementing a opamp buffer. I used the one from Ray Wilson mentioned in this thread: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-49356-0.html

cheers,

I've had issues with the beatstep triggering things too. In particular I have a hexinverter Postman quad AR EG that simply won't take the beatstep's gates.

I'm not sure why; based on the schematic, the hex module ought to be triggering at 2.25V and I know the BeatStep generates more than that.

The beatstep is powered from a Radio Shack phone charger, not a computer, when this happens, don't know if that's possibly relevant. I will have to test with other phone chargers I have taht might be better quality, and powered form the computer too.

My workaround was that I found it *could* trigger my CGS Voltage Controlled Slope, so I ran it though that and used the VCS out to trigger the postman.

Hi elmegil,

I noticed that you mentioned building one of Ray's gate/trigger distribution and CV distribution circuits? Did you try that with the Beatstep? I'm thinking that might be a better long term solution. Did you build it on stripboard, any chance of seeing your design? Also, Arturia have released the Beatstep Pro at NAMM 2015 it looks awesome, hopefully it won't have the same issues, especially with the 8 gate outputs!

Certainly something other than tying up my VCS would be a better choice. I have some comparator PCBs to build and that would work very nicely too, I'm sure.

What I really ought to do is sit down and look at the output from the beatstep with and without plugging it into the EG to see why it isn't doing the job. I suppose it's feasible that I messed up my EG build and the threshold is set higher.....
