Hi all Smile

Since building the vari-sequencer , I have sorely missed having 2 identical mfos standard 16 step sequencers .

I have a standard 16 step I built in 2005 and it's soon time it was condensed Smile.

I have ordered another standard 16step set of pcbs from Ray a few days ago and I'm planning to build a dual sequencer on a spare 400mm by 250mm blank panel I have had set aside.

This thread will take a few weeks to get going, I'm at the planning / thinking stage at the moment Smile.

The new panel needs to contain......
2 x standard 16 step sequencers.
2 x simultaneous gate buses per sequencer.
2 x sequential switches.
2 x clock dividers.
2 x CV mixers (keyboard transpose).
lots of toggle switches & wiring Very Happy .

here is 2 planning diagrams of how the external clock & re-set"all" functions are connected & also the plan of how the Gate buses are connected inside.

And a first envisaged panel layout Smile Smile Smile Smile.

Hi Smile
Been soldering again & tweeking the panel design a little.....

Got the 2 cv mixers built on vero board that will do the transpose sections, I added a switch to select normal cv or glide cv to be mixed with an external keyboard midi to cv converters cv output .

also got the sequential switches , divider for slowly clocking the seq switches , and some buffers for the 4 gate patterns available.

more pics soon.....

Hullo Smile

Now got the mfos sequencer pcb's all populated & wired , need to do final panel checks for spacing & text fowling before I get the sticker done , and order the toggle switches & pots etc.

Hi Smile

I'm sure this is now the final final panel layout.... in blue Smile .

Checked twice over for text fouling by fixing washers / socket nuts and all seems good , phew! Smile .

While over-analysing the connection and integration of the different bits of this sequencer, in my head , I fore saw a problem with my reset all arraingment Smile ..... the sequential switches & their respective clock dividers for sequencer 1 & 2 reset with a +12 volt momentary push ..... and the MFOS sequencers reset with a momentary ground , to save altering the panel I decided to order a DP toggle switch that has a momentary action on one flick direction only , so it resets the + and ground circuits , on different poles , at the same time .

Hope to get the sticker done over the next few days ..... then it's time for hours of press drilling in the shed , gonna need a wooly hat & hot coco for that Wink

Dave.

Hi .

I have never ordered 100 switches before , the case looks like a selection tray , but they are not finest Belgian chocolates Very Happy Very Happy .

I have been using these red panel mounted toggle switches for some time now , they are solidly built and can take quite a few thousand switching actions , ive never had one fail yet , I need 70 odd for the project and the price was lower for 100+ from Rapid UK.

Hi Smile

Panel was drilled in the shed last night and the finished sticker is now on and all the crosshairs have been scalpled out ready for control hardware fixing.
Hope to get a good few hours of building over the weekend.

Dave.

WOW. Well. Who wants a Klee when you'll have that knocking around? Great stuff (hope you have a really good pair of wire strippers!)

Thanks Alan Smile

I have built a klee a while back and it is great , this one is slightly different cycling through 4 different gate patterns with sequential switches instead of the klee's shift register core.

Wiring, wiring and some more wiring......

Got the 2 main sequencers purchased pcbs running , did the usual no chip power test and fully chipped test , apart from a dud LED they are working with no problems.

Next job , connect up the add on circuits , clock dividers / sequential switches / cv transpose mixers and 2 extra gate / trigger buffer circuits for outputs "B" and "D".

If there are no build faults on the veroboard circuits.... I should have this operational by the end of the weekend , hopefully Smile .

Famous last words .... Smile

just finished fixing a list of de-bug errors......

Chip wrong way round (not done that for a long time).

No power to 40106 (blindly drilled an isolator hole on the feed strip).

Decided the up / down tie diodes on the clone of the gate bus inverters were not needed ( they were needed).

Never mind Smile Smile hehe , all the wiring is done now and all the apparent faults have been tracked down & fixed.

A couple more wiring nest pics then some Panel Face pics

Audio files to come in a few days.....

Been having a good play with this in the modular now Smile .

To demo the first sequencer ( both have identical features) I have patched up the RM1X to the seq 1 external clock in , set up an 8 step sequence , plugged a midi keyboard note cv into the key cv input , connected a vco to each of the transpose mixed cv outputs.
2 vco's / vcf / vca with ADSR on the demo , the seq gate out is patched to the ADSR feeding 1 pattern at a time of up to 4 gate buses to work the vca .

through the demo I am pressing a key on the midi keyboard every so often which is transposing / changing the root note of the main sequence.

Dave.

2nd demo ......
This time I have 2 sequencers running 2 vco's / vcf / vca each and I have set the sequential switch mode to A B on seq 1 and C D on seq 2 , yellow drums (cynare's + MPS's doing percussive sounds) , no cv transpose on this one .
Sequencer 1 is set to an 8 step pattern and sequencer 2 is set to a 7 step pattern.
Also added some juno pad sounds over the sequences.

Dave.
