Hello all! I joined this forum because I thought this seemed a good place for some pointers.

I have played the keys in a small band for a year or so now and upon starting I bought a nice digital piano to practice on, and was mainly looking for a good key bed as I had a plan to eventually use it as a really nice feeling, hammer weighted midi controller. I am now at that stage where I am needing a larger vocabulary of sounds but am limited by this piano and its small range out sounds and effects.

I really want to go with a laptop based solution where I can download or create an unlimited range of instruments/sounds and use it in a live situation with my DP and another midi controller.

My questions are:
-What program do you recommend for doing this? I have no desire to use any sequencing or production related tools which most solutions seem to be based around.
-What is the best (low latency) way to interface midi devices
-What do I need for audio output? Are integrated audio solutions too slow?

Any help would be very much appreciated

I have very little experience with this sort of thing, but I'll share what I do know since no one else has.
I bought a used interface that has been a little problematic (it is a M Audio Fast-Track Pro, which is very outdated), but it definite depends on the computer you are using. I run Ableton Live 9 on both my laptop and studio computer, and everything runs better on my studio comp. It is much older, but I use it only for producing and the specs seem to be up to snuff. The latency through my MIDI and audio interfaces is little to none (at least that I can notice) whereas with my laptop the latency can be up to a second. You'll definitely want an audio interface though; running it straight out you computer will create a lot of noise and be generally low quality and quiet.
