Recorded at Woody Bay station, at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway gala weekend in September 2014, using a Zoom H2N.

Highlights...
0:17 - a valve is opened slightly
0:26 - 1:10 - coal shovelling
2:22 - short whistle
3:21 - longer whistle
3:42 - train departs

No fade in / out. No normalisation or other FX / processing applied.

Why thank you - although I see I posted full-on .wav files, instead of mp3s (it was late and I knew I'd forgotten to do something that I usually do - just couldn't think what it was Embarassed)

I love that little Zoom (although I hope I never drop it).

Thank you all - the response to my recordings has been most encouraging Very Happy

I'm not an audio engineer or anything, just a creative type with enough tech knowledge not to blow things up (too often).

I hope other people are encouraged by what they've heard, to explore and share their audio environments, along with any experience they pick up along the way.

Portable digital recorders are soooo cheap now - you can easily kit yourself out with a brand new one, plus all the accessories you'll need, for well under 200 GBP (300 USD).
