What -minus- said, and if those work Im sure some of us will be content with rotary switches. |

funnily enough ive been asking about making rotary switch 'chiclet' pcbs with a couple of people for just this project...
im sure if more sequencer pcbs were available we could sort something out. |

According to Google, several chinese manufacturers offer 1P8T switches. At least one of them has minimum order 1000 ea. I believe, minimum order could be negotiated.
But I pretty sure that rotary or even electronic switches with led indication could be easily used for this project. |

Hello
As the count control circuit is based on voltage,
the seq can also work using potentiometer
for 8way control, although obviously no click stops.
With these you could also set the count larger than 8,
although it might be hard to visually gauge the setting.
The rotary switches are pretty big, and not cheap.
Funnily enough I have just been on a business
trip to China, and I did scour one of the amazing
electronics markets ( 7 floors !! ) but switches were
scarce - everything is turning SMD

Alpha-Taiwan makes smaller footprint rotary switches in 1p8t.
Alpha 1P8T rotaries
There are also grayhills that are readily available in the surplus market. Just a though. |

Thanks for the link, nice compact switch.
A little expensive tho.
I have contacted the switch supplier in China I bought the 8ways from
before, and they have run out.
To order more there is a minimum order of 5000 ! as they need
to make them to order . . .

Hi,
Does anyone have any spare PICs and PCBs for sale? I really want to build one of these! |

Very inspiring this! And I'm thinking about making something similar Arduino based.
Recently I have found a supplier for the 8 pos. switches but the minimum order was 5000 pcs. but after some begging they were willing to send me 10 free samples (!) all I had to do was to pay for the transportation costs ánd I had to pay for sending the money that would pay for transportation.
Transportation costs was 25$ and sending the money to China cost me 25€, so all in all a total of about 50€ for 10 free switches, that was to expensive for me.
Now I will use thumbwheel switches that go from 0 (no gate) to 9 (9 repetitions) plus: they are bcd output and cost about 3€ for 10 switches and free shipping ( I know, I go cheap!)
but first I have to return from my holydays _________________ my synth |

I believe the attempts to locate 8 pos switches is a dead-end road. They could be replaced with selector circuit based on logic IC, 4017 for instance. It's worth to try. |

Hello
I have said before, but the 8ways switches are not
essential.
They are wired as resistor arrays, essentially a fixed position
potentiometer.
The project can easily be built with 50k potentiomenters instead of
the 8way switches, this also negates a lot of wiring !
In theory with potentiometers and a tweak of the software the stage repeats could be set from 1-16 [rather than 8] which would be cool . . .

Hi Ryk!
Does this mean that the project can be revived? |

As a serious Telex fan I have always loved the way Dan Lacksman uses the 100m sequencer and this M-185 looks like the business! Great work Ryk!
Really hoping this becomes available again.
I would like to try to get hold of some 8-way switches, rotary if not slide - and I would be happy with pots too! |

I have one of these M185 PCBs assembled w sliders and slide switches and all the panel hardware laid out and soldered onto proto-board, to fit behind a 26hp (if I remember right) panel designed for Front Panel Express, but never made. I have both versions of the pic chip.
I wasn't able to get mine working. It was partially working, but wouldn't advance past stage 1. I'm quite sure it was an error in my panel wiring. I found the schematics for using pots instead of switches kind of confusing; all the more so when combined with the uncertain pin out on the sliders I used.
I put the project away, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get back to it. But it's nearly done, very neatly executed, and shouldn't be too hard to troubleshoot for one with more electronics know how than me.
I'm open to trades; if anyone's interested, post here, I don't check my inbox. |

I would be interested, don't know if I have something interesting for you... a Turing Machine MKII maybe? Or I could build some (simple) Mutable Instr. DIY stuff maybe.. |

What about eurorack modular 808 kick or snare?

Hi ericcoleridge,
do you still have the M185 PCBs? I could also trade for a Doepfer A124 WASP Filter, a Turing Machine MKII or maybe a DIY MI Veils or Blinds. |

Any chance of another run of this? Be interesting to see a Eurorack version... _________________ LektroiD |

Thanks, but I was looking more along the lines of DIY modules. I don't have any pre-built modules in my system... Unless they do a DIY version? _________________ LektroiD |

Ah, yes - no DIY AFAIK, would be great if this appeared again as I'd certainly like a couple more! _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

Nót a diy for sale module
But I have no problem sharing the schematics and code... _________________ my synth |
