Changing the slope of pot movement on the A6 filters |
|
|
Hi all,
Is there a way to change the slope of the pot movement on the Andy's filters? I find the sweet spot is typically in quite a small range of movement on each pot, so tracking subtle filter changes over time is sometimes a challenge by hand. I know there's loads of slope control for the envelopes and portamento, and I couldn't find any reference to this in the manual.

Improving filter sweep range - from the tips and tricks |
|
|
Found it, here's an extract from the awesome tips and tricks document... The more I learn the more I love this synth.
FILTER SWEEP RANGE:
One thing that is different about the Andromeda, compared to some synthesizers, is that the filters have a very high range. This means that it is possible to have the filters “sweep” in a way where only part of the knob is useful.
When doing patches that involve filter FM, you may find that high range useful. But, in other situations, having a high range is more of an annoyance, especially when modulating the cutoff realtime.
To change this, simply click “View” in the desired filter window. Then, adjust the “Offset” of the filter (soft knob 5) downward. Then adjust the filter cutoff frequency back to a desireable level. This will allow you to control the degree of how much you want to sweep the filters. |

I just got an A6 and this behavior drives me crazy. The useable range of filter 2 is like the bottom 10% of the knob's travel. Could somebody explain why Filter 2 would need to go to 48 KHz? It doesn't seem to me you'd ever be able to hear anything over 30 K, so why bother? Am I just dense? |

Adjust one of the OFFSETs to find a more pleasing working range
On my roland sys 100 the filterrange goes to 100000hz, some pipeorgans go even higher which b.e. Makes audible notes by the interference/ difference in unaudible frequencies. Its a feature, don't see the problem (specially not when the working-range of the pots can be adjusted to your likening ...) |

One thing to remember is that the A6's INIT patch is programmed with over 63% ENV2 modulation on Filter 2. Filter 1 is set to 100% by default! When I start a new patch the first thing I do is remove the envelope send to the filter. The default setting gives you terrible range for the cutoff, 10% of the knob as mentioned in the OP. Turning ENV2 modulation down to 0 gives you much wider range with the filter knob, closer to 65%. And of course you can use the offsets as you dial in your envelopes to control the filters' range. |
