My Broken MKS-70 Subject description: Looking for a buyer, or possibly a fixer |
|
|
Hey! I'm completely new here to this website and forum. I bought my MKS-70 and PG-800 about 3 months ago and it has just recently crapped out. It won't turn on! I tried swapping the power cord with a new one and - nothin'!
Even though this sucks pretty hard, because I had a blast with it, I'm looking to sell it to anyone who wants extra parts. Or possibly to someone who may be able to fix it and use it for themselves.
If someone could also simply fix it, for a low cost, then that would be cool too. |

Sounds like the power supply has died. With a little luck that could be quite simple to repair - ultimately as simple as changing a blown fuse. The mains fuse is inside the box - open it up and have a look maybe, you'll spot the glass fuse on the power supply board. Unless you want to have a go yourself, perhaps there are some EM members in Kansas City who could take a look at it. If not, any electronics repair shop should be able to quickly/cheaply diagnose and fix it, provided it's only the power supply.
The service manual is readily available on the net, e.g.here.
Just don't give up on it - it's definitely worth a repair (or fuse swap...)! |

Okay, awesome. Thank you for replying. I'll go ahead and take it into an electronic repair shop then. It would be a sad thing to not have it any more, the sounds are so luscious. |

It does sound rather good. I had the keyboard version of it, the JX-10. That's one of the synths I regret selling...
Be sure to give the repair shop the link to the service manual, or even a printout of it.
Good luck! |

Happened to mine, the fix was a simple matter of reflowing the solder on the power supply board.
Apparently the PSU runs a bit hot causing dry joints |
