Am looking at replacing a SSM2030 in a VCO circuit with discrete circuitry. Just wondering if somebody has tried this before? or if anybody has a few tips/links that might help?

thanks

The original SSM2030 datasheet basically contains the entire schematic (even though it's in block-form) for the device. It's quite straight forward to interpret it into a realizable circuit.

Between that and the Prophet 5 service manual (providing the usage context and external circuitry), both easily available online as PDFs, you can piece together the entire circuit.

I'd love to see what you've been up to!
Did you end up doing an SSM2030 clone in the end?

A lot of my stuff is HERE.

Regarding the 2030, I was interested in building a VCO based on the Aries 338 PMS VCO, so mainly wanted to figure out how to replace the chip rather than clone it.
Ended up with the standard EN/Mikulic core but hooked up PMS (phase modulated sync) and pan-pulse from the 338. Those VCOs ended up on this panel

also did a lot of research on memristor based chaotic circuits and helped developed an analogue synth controlled by human neurons living on an electrode array.....I see you are in Sydney, we will be performing there with cellF in early June - Cell block Theatre Darlinghurst
