Two more patches from the Moduletta. The first is using an 8-bit shift register with XOR feedback and a filter. The second uses two counters at different speeds for the melody and a shift register to generate the second voice.

wow this looks amazing. Id love to get a PCB. Im currently building a benjolin and power supply with 12v out so I can connect it with breadboard circuits and patch them to the benjolin. Going for a poor mans sound machines ns1 http://www.sound-machines.it/product/ns1nanosynth/ this "moduletta" seems like it would fit great into that plan. I hope you make the pCB's available!

a fellow sound enthusiast!

And two more patches. The first is made from a shift register and a counter to generate random beats with small variations. The second is the famous Rungler made from an 8-bit shift register and two VCOs with PWM.

These sound great! Favourites so far are the Swing Melody and Chimes Bass.

I like the logistics of this: negotiating with a mustard factory for knob supply.
Even the conversation where someone says "this would make a good..."
There should be more synth/catering interaction.

With the bun* colour MDF and the mustard knobs, I feel the pcbs should be red! Smile

Superb work, gentlemen.

I can't stop. Two more sound samples from the Moduletta. The first is using a shift register for a randomized scale and another one for the arpeggios. The VCA gives it the percussive touch. The second patch uses a long counter for scale and rhythm and a long shift register as a variable divider. It is a bit heavy on the low frequencies, so sounds better using headphones.

The patches are documented and I will publish them together with the schematics and description for the workshop soon.

Yes, now that you ask, I think it would be a good idea. Given that everybody agrees of course.

Hi elektrouwe,

how you obtained the Moduletta PCB? Or did you make by yourself?

I designed the circuit and PCB and had it manufactured at vrint-pcb. Uwe helped with the PCB design and did the laser cutting. Of course, he got the first PCB for that. Looking forward to the workshop now.

You can find a few photos from the ZUKUNFTSMUSIK workshop in Linz at http://dorninger.servus.at/node/1824. We built several Modulettas there and demonstrated them during an improvised performance on the last evening.

My recording works again. Very Happy I couldn't make my laptop accept audio input via the combo input jack any more, so I bought a small USB soundcard. It was really cheap, but works great in combination with Audacity.
This patch uses the Moduletta plus two extra prototype modules that I built recently. The first is a voltage controlled hex wave folder, and the second is a PT2399 based delay. Enjoy the recording!

For those with a Moduletta, here is the patch. Just skip the folder and delay for now and connect VCO3:ANA to MIXER:ME and SHIFTER2:Q0 to MIXER:LO.
Code:
CV1->VCO1:CV
VCO1:DIG->COUNTER1:CLOCK
COUNTER1:Q0->VCO3:GATE
COUNTER1:Q1->SHIFTER2:XOR_D2
COUNTER1:Q3->SHIFTER1:CLOCK
VCO3:DIG->SHIFTER2:CLOCK
SHIFTER2:Q2->SHIFTER2:XOR_D1
SHIFTER2:Q3->SHIFTER1:XOR_D1
SHIFTER1:Q0->DAC1:CV/2
SHIFTER1:Q1->DAC1:CV/1
SHIFTER1:Q3->DAC1:CV/4
LOGIC:HIGH->DAC1:CV/1
DAC1:OUT->VCO3:CV
SHIFTER2:Q0->DAC2:CV/1
VCO3:ANA->FOLDER:IN
VCO1:ANA->FOLDER:CV
FOLDER:OUT->DAC2:CV
DAC2:OUT->DELAY:IN
DELAY:OUT->MIXER:LO

Great to see other Modulettas! Here is the documentation that I prepared for the workshop. I translated the most important parts to English by now. The descriptions of the sample patches are still in German, but I believe you can easily figure out how the connections have to be made from the tables.

Thank you for the documentation.

This is the dual filter. I added potentiometers for attenuting the CV

On the VCOs I added CV potentiometers too and normalized them to + so they work without a CV.

A bit late to the party, I know. Are there any PCBs still available for this project?

BTW the VCO works using an NPN transistor instead of the 4066, though it gets quite non linear below about 75 millivolts input CV.
