My first VCO needs to be a MFOS. I'm excited to take on this projecton. I'm going to make a custom panel for it too and use 1/4" patch cables cause I love the feel of 1/4" Smile I'm curious if anyone has done the build recently and know the best place to order parts. Even a shopping cart would be helpful. If not, I'll go to Jameco or Digikeys most likely with lots of coffee, searching... :p

Hello Smile , did you get a mfos pcb for the vco or are you making your own pcb ?
Back in 2005 - 2009 i built 6 mfos vco's which are still going strong today Smile
when i started building them and other pcb's i had amassed a collection of components by getting a few multi value selection packs for resistors 1% and film box capacitors 5% and a good selection of chip sockets too ( 8 pin , 14 pin & 16 pin), the common used values of resistors like 1K 10K 100K i bought a box of 1000 each , and you are not long in using those if you have a big system planned, i find i always need to make a small size order for "odd" values of specific components on some new projects , if you only want to order the right amount of items im not sure if one of the shops that have taken on the sales of legacy mfos pcb's if they have a modern BoM on their sites.

Good luck

Dave Smile

Hi, i've built 4 and will be building 2 more as i already have the ICs
there's 2 that will be your hold up and you will not be able to get redily
SSM2210
OP275 - they have these, but AD has made it a bulk purchase now, so they will be harder to source.
just looked @ Mouser/ they seem to be the only ones willing to carry the DIP version. and they have 1100 on order but 0 in stock.
2K Tempcos i've not found at Mouser either, got mine from Synthcube.

SSM2210 - or SSM2212 - which the PCB has pads for(i've not built one with that) or you will have to match Transistors
all 6 of mine will be SSM2210/OP275

I use Mouser and if i have to Newark.
you just build a cart, go down the list on Ray's site and just start ordering. you will quickly notice it is much cheaper to buy larger quantities.
the trick comes in looking at lead spacing and getting the appropriate capacitors for the area of the circuit.
i pretty much use all 1% resistors, film caps , ceramic mostly for decoupling, and electrolytic are usually prescribed.
you should get your PCB first and when you are ordering a part, look where it goes on the PCB to make sure your leads are spaced correctly.
thats how i do these things.

SSM2210

At least the SSM2210 are more or less readily available as SMD ICs (I got mine off Ebay, and they weren't too expensive). There are tiny adapter PCBs available as well, and an old cap can serve as a leg donor Wink.

The pics are of my MFOS Ultimate build, but that doesn't matter in this case Smile.

SSM2212 is available - and Ray indicates is superior to 2210
and the VCO PCB has pads for the SMD , so that will work fine

~ $15 for the 2 important ICs
