Hello.

Let me describe my problem.
Long time ago I've recorded some samples from A6.
It was a taiwanese version.
Due to economical reason I had to sell it.

I bought it again some time ago.
Also a taiwanese one.
But always felt, you know, for some reason it has a difference in sound.
Especcialy in attacks, everything sounds like it's more compressed and
little bit distorted.
I know info bout levels in pre filter and other issues from wohmart site.
But those samples that I have recorded long time ago were from unmodified factory patches, os 1.40.12. Main outs. FX turned off.
Bckground tune ON. Fast filter in Engine Optimizer.

Yesterday I've compared some of my recorded samples to the new ones.
And yep, the difference became more clear.

I uploaded a sample for you to understand what I'm talking about.

Patch called "Arena monster". FX turned off.
First comes an old recording.
Notice that clicky attacks.

Second comes the new recording.
Sounds more boomy, none of that clicky sound.

Where the problem lies ?
I know that I can work this patch in some way to achieve the goal.
But hey, why does it sounds different ?
Do all Andromedas have different filter calibration or something ?

I tried to factory reset with soft button 4, did auto tune couple of times.
Even tried alternative outs. Flashed 1.40.13 OS.
Nothing helped.
Still that flat distorted sound with no filter attack.
Asic problem ?
Maybe someone can record this patch the same way, with no fx.
Note C3.
Also other patches do sound different in some ways.
The feeling is I have completely different instrument in my hands.
Very strange and frustrating.

Thanks in advance Wink

i had two, never noticed any difference, same about story of taiwan or not.
has anything else changed in the time in between, mixer, cables, speakers, house
have there been repairs on one of them in the past espec, out board repairs
try the samples with voice alternation, is there difference between the voices , due to falthy filterchips maybe ?

otherwise no idea.
the point between taiwan or not is a piece of bread for monkeys...

Turned out that it depends on VCA level (Level knob on the right)
If I lower the level to 70-80 distortion disappears.
But hey, I remember that I never touched this knob when played this sound long time ago. I always adjusted levels with Master Volume.

From Tips and Tricks manual

"Yes, this seems to be the case with what I found out on my side. I usually bring the sustain level on the VCA below 90, but ~80 seems to be where I get cleaner sounds."

I did not edit envelope, I just lowered a patch level.
If the level is at maximum, distortion occurs on master, aux and individual outputs. All voices behave the same way.
So this is certainly not chips or output transistors.

Can you guys check this on your instruments ?

Patch called "Arena monster". FX turned off. Note C3.
First please record with Level at 100, than at 60-70.

The reason why I'm asking this is that I'm bit of paranoid when it comes to Andy.
It can be a reason for being nervous )))
You know. Wink

i remember that the levels in the vca should be not too hot, 70% seems a good idea if you want that clear , roland like overall sound + no "attack artifacts"

also in the pre and post mixer sections keep things low 25-30%, together 100, no more

the A6 has a big working range, tuning it well takes time

those tips and tricks are worth reading completely at least once , indeed Smile
