Hello there,
I need help building a simple interface that would bridge between my sensors and my modular gear.

I use to have a DIY box that would let me use a Sharp distance sensor to control an analog filter.

I don't have that box anymore and I cannot replicate it. I remember that it was quite easy, just a handful of components.

Can anyone help?

here's the sensor for reference

many thanks in advance

I don’t know this sensor, but maybe you could use a fonitronik-attenuverter-chicklet (google this)

Looks like this could be a fun circuit (well application note already states "amusement Equipment" Smile )

From what i see you would need only a 5V DC supply for this sensor, then a supply of 12 or 15V DC or even less (from which you can extract the 5V via 7805) and a single supply opamp like LM358 as a Buffer and gain stage because the max voltage seems to be roughly 2V and you might want to boost it up a bit... Maybe you can add some glide circuit within with a cap, to get a variable smooth Response via Potentiometer. Another pot to adjust the Output ovltage level to your needs would also be beneficary i think.
Two of those attached to two VCO's or a VCO and VCA could give you some Theremin-style performance…

Edit: i think i got the characteristics wrong… max Output seems to be 5V+/- 0,3V when operated at 5V supply… but nevertheless some boosting of the Output and the glide function seem to be useful

Output voltage at 1.5meters is typ. 0.4 volt
Output voltage differential ΔVO (Output voltage difference between L=20cm and L=150cm) is Typ. 2.05 volt

oops totally missed the graphics at the end of the app note…

yes, you're correct… but i think that an range of 20cm to 150 cm will make it a bit odd to tame it's behaviour and Output... Maybe some simple LDR driven circuit will give better Control over range and Dynamics...

speaking of sensors and LDRs here's a circuit I designed a while ago.
I thought I'd posted it before but can't find it right now.

There is also a 10-80cm type sensor
