Subject description: Finally finished my first project

I recently finished my first electro music project. It's taken about 10 months altogether. Mainly due to the fact it started off as a baby 8 sequencer and grew organically into something more complicated. And also I had to learn everything from scratch!

Not strictly lunetta but since you guys helped me so much I wanted to share it with you and say thanks Very Happy.

Quick run down of it:

- Runs on 9V supply
- Atari Punk Console based, but with the astable oscillator driving 2 monostable oscillators (so they are 'in tune' with each other and can run through the same stepped tones)
- the first pair of 555's is the classic APC with a baby 16 sequencer which is the 'LEAD' sound. Can be full or half steps
- the 2nd pairing is sent via a 4040 to create sub octaves and becomes the 'BASS' and 'CHORDS'
- the BASS uses 4046 pll's to create the 5th and Octave notes by freq multiplying the root note
- the CHORDS use 4046's in the same way to create the 3rd (both major and minor) the 5th and the 4th or 6th notes (selectable)
- BASS has a 4017 sequencer with 3 to 8 steps. Steps can be root note or 5th/Octave or off, chosen by centre off on/off/on toggle switches
- CHORD notes can be played sustained, or in an arpeggio. I came up with 3 sequences using a 4017, a 4015 or a 4040. Can be played forwards or backwards, and you can mix and match the type for each of the 4 notes.
- 4 main clock speeds, using 4017's to sub divide.
- LEAD and BASS both have Ring Mods using 4070's
- LEAD has a 4046 pll for octave selection. I also added pots to vary the resistances on pins 11 and 12. One slows down the time to lock onto the CV change which sounds like a kind of portamento. The other creates a kind of wobble as the pll can't quite lock on.
Basically a poor man's vibrato Laughing

- BASS and CHORDS have a 'vibe' mode which was from Run off the groove's Trivibe guitar pedal circuit
- LPF/HPF using Tim Escobedo's ms20 clone
- Delay circuit (another guitar pedal circuit)
- LFO for the filter, with rates either in sync with the clock or free
- a few more features but nothing too interesting, and I'm getting bored of typing Wink

Anyway here's a quick video of it. Sorry for the poor audio and the camera work is straight off of the film Cloverfield. Also its a bit of an amateur demonstration but you get the idea. Also there's a few more pot knobs to attach still.

Cheers guys
Chris

wow! well-done
looks and sounds great! I like that you went for switches instead of making it patchable. Although it might limit the available options a bit
it's easier to play with and you don't have to dig through a wire spaghetti. Also those chord buttons seem to work very well, I really
should look into using the PLL more.

oh nice idea, I still have an APC build on my todo list so I might incorporate that.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys Very Happy

In my head I wanted it to be like a groovebox that could just be played on the fly - hence all the switches instead of patch cables.

It definitely limits it though. I think if i re-built it I'd try and incorporate some banana jacks. I'm going to trawl through this forum to get some ideas!

Very impressive build and looks/sounds fun to play!

I love the eyes-as-tempo-indicators.

I think I would forget what a lot of switches do if I put it aside for a bit. But I have a crap memory so tend to put labels on my boxes.

Thanks fellas Very Happy

James - I agree with you about the labels, I definitely need to add them at some point.

The LED indicators worked great originally but now one of them is constantly on! I designed it so that when audio passed through the "vibe"/modulation circuit, it also closed a 4066 switch via an NPN transistor and allowed the indicator CV to pass through and activate the LED's. I think in the struggle to close the lid on the box something must have shorted and the switch is always closed. There were so many wires in there it was like trying to pack a suitcase Laughing

Cool build. I too like the switches instead of patch cable approach. I vote for no labels!
