Are Max patches and PD patches interchangeable?
What are differences?
TIA!
Ben

Yes, but then again, no.

Both programs have different objects, they have many similar objects, many same objects. Basic flow is the same, basic ideas are the same.
The ASCII-file format describing the patches might even be trivial to exchange / convert. But don't count on any real interoperability / compatibilty...

How very zen. Smile

Maybe a better question is:
Are there specific strengths of each program that that would make somebody choose one over the other?
Can you give any examples?

MAX/MSP supports the Rewire protocol. that's a big plus for me.
PD is freeware though Exclamation

Pd has a VST version out there. That's just about as good as rewire, depending on what tools you use.

I don't use either program myself, but I'm considering it, if only to learn more. So, it sounds like if you don't know which to use and you are just starting off, it would make sense to start with PD and switch to MAX/MSP when you're sure that it is worth the money. The time you invest with PD will not be wasted if you switch later to MAX/MSP. Is that a good summation?

I use Reason & Reaktor.
I agree with Howard that PD only has time investment not money & time.
Sounds like I should be able to link Reaktor with PD via a VST version (as well as other VSTs)
This is the kind of info I'm looking for Very Happy
Thanks everybody!
