As mentioned in a recent G2 discussion thread, here's a G2 patch that emulates a hammered dulcimer (variation 1) and sort of a sitarish thing (variation 4) and some other stuff. There's a lot going on in the patch & it's getting late, so no explanations this time. Besides, I already explained it at the last Modular Event Smile Don't you hate missing out? Better get your tickets to electro-music 2005 Smile

Ooooh, this patch is a gem. I love it.

Anyone who still thinks the G2 has a characteristic sound should listen to this one. My wife has a hammered dulcimer and this sounds very much like it, only better. The other variations are great too.

I'm going to have to start playing some John Fahey songs on the keyboard. Laughing

Great patch. I especially like the way you emulated the complex ringing of a stringed instrument. The dulcimer sounds sweet and will be good for melodies. The sitar sounds pretty good when you use the modulating wheel with it to emulate the passive ringing of sympathic strings. Trying to model a sitar is an awesome challenge. I guess you would have to use the pitch stick in combination with the modulator wheel at the same time to model microtones on a diatonic G2(X) keyboard.
Thanks for sharing. This is a fun patch.

Gregory

Very Happy

Thanks for sharing this patch Dave, guess you really put some effort in it to make it sound so realistic. Cool good job

My wife, Juli, who plays the hammered dulcimer says it doesn't sound like one, but it sounds nice anyway. You can never please a purist. Laughing

Thanks. If you have a NM1, I made some better Sitar patches for that synth. It was a pair of them, one for melody and one for drones, to be loaded into two slots. I think they were called Sitar High Lead and Sitar Low Drone or something like that. Should be in the NM1 archives.

You can hear an example of these two NM1 patches on "Droam", the opening track on my CD "Endo-Spectra". The CD is here at the Electro-Music store, and there are some links at the bottom of the screen that let you hear some excerpts of the tracks. Enjoy!
