OK, I couldn't resist this one...

(Ab-)using my simple counter circuit (http://www.electro-music.com/forum/post-44645.html#44645) as a mockup ramp oscillator, I added lin/expo conversion to derive equal temperament for a simple two oscillator subtractive synth (forgive me, Kassen Laughing Wink).

It's just a brief demonstration of what can be done: ramp and variable pulsewidth (the old analog way) plus oscillator sync and even FM.

(You could also derive triangle waveform from the ramp (again, the old way), but I was to lazy for that. I think you get the picture nevertheless.)

The lin/expo conversion isn't 100% accurate, so you get a little real analog feeling for free too.

Anyway -I find that the sound of these DIY circuits has a different tonal character than the customary modules. Again, another flavor. Smile

I know the whole thing is actually little bit pointless, so forgive me my indulgence. But I found the whole thing quite stimulating and instructive. Maybe some of you do too.

(Note: There are no variations because changing vars makes the circuit crap out and mute irreparably (you have to reload the patch). Why this is so I haven't been able to find out yet. Maybe Clavia doesn't like us to make our own oscillators.)

I do! Thanks... great demonstration.

Yeah, I've noticed this, too, with a several different types of DIY circuits submitted on this forum -- ik's come to mind.
Again, in my usual spirit, I hope Clavia can address this in one way or another since it does offer other flavors, as you say, and can be 'instructive and stimulating'... maybe they didn't account for this sort of module (ab)use?

Yeah I hope they fix it too... I really like the sound of this one. I don't know if it's the fact that it's called "DIY synth" or not, but it just _sounds_ experimental - I love it!
