hi all
im wondering if i could use an old PC power supply for my SL

the label says +-5V and +-12V
,but my multimeter says its +10.9V and -8.8V
so there is 2.1V difference - is it normal ? Smile
okay not normal but is it bad if i use it ?

new day new power supply...
so the one i have now gives
+11.67V and -11.93V

the difference is now smaller - but should i limit the voltage to get both ends in symmetry?

do you have your voltages symmetrical? and is this even an issue ?

I shouldn't worry too much about small differences. Even if you were to run it from batteries they would always differ slightly.

It will work but it slightly changes the sound (more distortion) when the
Voltage is not symetrical. In your case its probably not easy to hear a difference.
It´s not optimal to use switched powersupplys with analog equipment...
Even when its regulary done this way to day you have HF problems and current leakage problems, that are maybe solved in a yamaha digital desk but sometimes make DIY projekts a real hazzle.
depends on the quality of tthe powersupply..
