It's dedicated to many sides of electronic music that touch uppon the ground covered by the SoundLab; matters like controlers, production and composition.....

Ok, admittedly that was slightly joking but it does apear that the sense of comunity found in some Electro-Music sections (particularly the G2 and the Soundlab sections) is making some people forget that there are other sections too. If you came here through a direct link to a sub forum then I can well understand missing some of the other things that are going on here and indeed, it was found in the past that some people simply missed the rest of this forum; people that turned out to be quite interested in some of the other fields discussed here.

There is realy no need to post off topic threads in this section; there are other sections where they will be on topic and better yet; where you will encounter people that share your speciffic interests.

Kas.
(Stunt-doubeling for Mosc who's currently engaged elsewhere)

Boy you sure are slick Kassen. I pop in there all the time just not alot of posts. I would have never known about this place if it wasn't for my interest in the Sound Lab.(I'm glad I do now) Don't tell anyone, but I really don't listen to much electronic music anymore. I had a friend who imported electro records a while back and was really listening alot. Thomas Brinkman, Pentax, REQ(one of my fav records) all sorts of others. Mainly I've always just liked the sounds, and wide range of them from synthesizers. And I give thanks to the Mighty Ray Wilson for designing a synth that I could build with my clumsy little d%@k beaters. Hell this place is cool. I've even made a few pals. Three cheers for electro-music.com hip hip hooray

Looking forward to enjoying more and ALL of this forum.

Yeah, well, I noticed tow OT-marked threads a few days ago and thought it might be time for a gentle reminder. Lately I haven't been listening that much electronic stuff either; it's mostly dark, messed-up blues stuff here and early post-punk. *making* electronic music is a different matter though; I've been doing quite a lot of that.

Either way; I think it's realy great that E-M has these two comunities that are so self-contained and self-suficient but those pro's should also becxome con's so that's why I had a little talk with Mosc and we decided to post a nice friendly reminder. Well, more of a invitation the a reminder. I think building your own synth will give unique perspectives on production and composition and perhaps also a desire to share those with others and get some feedback.

I got rid of my reel to reel a while ago, real bummer. I need to dust off the ole 4-track and start recording again. It used to be hard to tear me away from that thing now its just sitting there. I'll find that little spark here soon.

I'm already cringing in anticipation for the possible international incident which this might start, but, unless it was for an effect or due to portability issues, I would never record onto magnetic tape again.
Being more of a producer/technician/engineer than musician I just couldn't stand losing the tweakability that recording onto the hard drive gives me.

Why would that cause a international incident? I think everybody understands this.

I like tape because tape allows me to get a little crazy; It's quite forgiving on the mix and the occasional runaway feedback, more so then DAC's. Tape doesn't ask questions; if the record light is on and the meters are running then it records. I've had a few cases of a great take only to find that the laptop was still in the process of asking questions before it wanted to go record.

So; I record a jam to tape, set up the gain so the max output of the tape is set close to 0 on the DAW and then bring the take from tape to the laptop for the HD's tweakability. To me that's the best of both worlds and it doesn't force me into too many angineer/performer mental conflicts. Admittedly a good limiter could do most of that but well, this is what I like.

i really recommend the "View posts since last visit" -link.(up right)
thats great - you can see what going on.
that option helped me to go deeper into this great forum.
