Hi guys.

This is my first post after lurking for months. Thanks for all the inspiring posts and pictures!
Just want to know if anybody here have built the strip board version of the SoundLab accordring to Andrews marvelous layout and gotten it to work. I'm half way through and thought it would be nice to know if there's any hope Smile

Progress here: http://www.psmedia.se/bildarkivet/v/hemsidan/Sound_Lab/IMG_0003.jpg.html

Of course it works Twisted Evil
No, seriously I decided I wasn't going to post it to Ray until I knew it worked. Mine runs perfectly. I've added the fine tuners, they work too. I've also done a new version which includes the 1V/Oct scaling mod.
I'm about to add the modulation, and a whole new board which adds 2 more VCO's and the S&H MarkII circuit from MFOS. This new board will make a great addition for anyone who has already finished the PCB of the main SL.
As for the guitar adaptor stripboard layout I designed I'm not sure about that. But I said so when I posted to the forum. Has anyone tested it yet?

Unka, Did you actually publish your strip board layout for the Sound Lab here? I've been looking everywhere for it Confused

No, I sent it to Ray,
He's put it on the site though.
There's a link near the PCB layouts which mentions my name (Andrew Sharp)
I could put it here too I spose.
They are fairly detailed pics though.
I'd have to drop the res to 700 wide and see if they're still readable.

Beautiful work by the way Gubbeper.
Is that actually stripboard or matrix board?
If it's matrix board you deserve a medal. Very Happy

Thanks Smile

No, it's just an ordinary strip board card. It is the biggest strip board project I've ever built though. I'm planing to make a PCB version if (when) I get it to work now that I have all the components. Is it just me or don't you all order more components than you need? Smile

cheers dnny- I actually got it last night.

This soundlab section of the forum is a mess- things need sorting out so they are easier to find. More moderators perhaps?

I'll second that! I've just finishing a stripboard version after realising that my mini drill for doing the pcb is incomplete (that, the degree and our screaming new baby oscillator too!).

Uncle-K, I've noticed that there is a rather large patch of veroboard to the lower lefthand side as viewed from the top of the board that is untouched- and therefore wasted. I really wish I had the patience for these things, but would there be any chance of revising the design of the board and designing the Sample and Hold circuit into this dead stripboard space?

PS, Where do those gorgeous red IC sockets come from?

Yes, those red IC sockets caught my eye too. Cool
As for the S&H in the corner, that was the original idea, but then I decided to make a whole new board which incorporates the S&H2, (which is a bit more advanced) and another 2 VCOs. I've made space for these controls on my original box plus patching it out and then it will be done.
But you're right, that space needs filling with the one chip S&H so that others can have that option too.
The other board is finished, it needs to be double checked and built.
Then I'll be checking and building at least one of the single bus keyboard CV/Gate stripboard, which I'm about 3/4 of the way through, but I'll have a look at the one chip S&H tonight, it might only take an hour or so.

wow- that's very quick! Is your speed helped by the layout software too by any chance?

I'll take a look for the red IC sockets and report back (but I've got to go and paint the celling (no joke) this afternoon!

They’re cute aren’t they? Smile I bought a handful of them from a guy on Tradera.com (a Swedish auction site much like Ebay) some time ago. Unfortenately he only had them in this size though. It would be great to have them in all the different sizes.

About the free area on the stripboard; If the s&h doesn’t fit there maybe it could house the trimpots for the 1v/octave mod? By the way my strip board SL is finished now though I haven’t fired it up yet. It’s waiting to move in to its temporary shoebox home Smile

I've added the Simple S&H to my V2 board (which already has the 1v/Oct mod added to the bottom)
It only just fitted. Very challenging. Smile
I'll double check it tomorrow and then post it.

Shocked arghhhhhhh! Oh well I'm gonna have an excess of non made-up boards soon! Twisted Evil

Can the existing one be modified to accept the new add-on? The veroboard I have here has 64 holes by 39/40 holes- so 3 extra tracks is helpful.

I do love veroboard- but it can be a right bugger to fault-find

Can't wait to see it!
