G2X - UK pricing... |
|
|
hello all! i've been lurking a while here and like a typical n00b am making my 1st post to ask a few daft questions...
i've got my heart set on picking up a G2X & am currently shopping around for the best price i can get. UK pricing for the G2X seems highly variable; very few stores even list it online, despite the fact *everywhere* lists the newer & more expensive nord stage!
most stores i've contacted will only quote the 'list' price of £2200 (3900 USD, 3250 EUR), which is curious given that nord's UK distributor (hand in hand) mentions a 'new' retail price of £1895 (as of april) on their home page!
a couple of places have offered me a 'deal' @ £2K, but i've found one UK site (absolute music) @ £1795 & one EU site (thomann.de) @ around £1712.
i don't need to demo the unit, so ordering online isn't an issue, but i'm reluctant to order outside of the EU for fear of getting a 110V model & holding everything up in customs. thomann.de seems to be the way to go, but i've not used them before & it's a big 1st order to place!
so - here come the daft questions:
1) is £1700 - £1800 (2510 EUR - 2660 EUR, 3000 - 3200 USD) a reasonable price to pay? i'm sure i've seen cheaper euro prices, but these might not include taxes...
2) has anyone here used thomann.de?
and finally, 3) does the G2X come with a *detachable* AC power cord?
thanks in advance,
matt. |

Matt. Great to have you here.
I can't comment on the European prices or the dealers, but I do know that the G2X does have a detachable power cord. From what I understand, the G2s have a switch in the power supply to change from 110 to 220. You have to change the fuse too, but it's not as big a deal as voltage changes in the old NM1 units.
I have an X and it is fantastic. The only thing better would be two of them. _________________ --Howard

thanks mosc! so picking up a US unit might be an option after all...
...which will make shopping around even more complicated! |

And the only reason i bought my engine from greece is because thomann was selling it only 60 euros cheaper and i couldn't wait two weeks for it to arrive.
But the prices are unbelievable. The mackie dealer here in greece sells the hr624 monitors for about 1000 euros each and i baught a pair from thomann at 900 euros!
You see?
The tc finalizer express costed 800euros from thomann and 2000 euros from greece tc dealer.
So maybe dealers in greece have overdone it?

Heh heh heh, it is true, 2 G2s are better than one (expanded one)! And some people I know have a LOT more than that!!! At some point it gets silly ...

Hi Matt,
Try Guitar And Keyboard in Brighton (www.gak.co.uk), its best to give them a ring at the shop on 01273671971, ask for Jon Kennett.
They did me a G2 keyboard for £1200 and the expansion card for £220, this was three months ago when the G2 list price was around £1500.
Jon was very helpfull and even lent me the shop demo G2 while it took clavia 8 weeks to deliver my G2 to me.
I can wholeheartedly recomend the G2, I am having great fun with it, it is one of my best buys.
Cheers

In april I found my G2X at 2000 euro in the only place left for us poor Milanesi, that is Luckymusic.
Prices are always good because they seldom sell gear in perfect condition. (one dead led on my G2X! Poor, poor, led! Fortunately, one on a rotary knob)
Here they sell a 5 octave expanded G2X at 2039 euro.
20 euro less than Thomann's 3 octave unexpanded G2 and 620 euro less than their G2X.
Hope this helps. |

can't comment on the pricing of the Nord Modular's at Thomann, but they are a family run company with very good support all around. the only online shop I use for music stuff. They also have a very large outlet store and the village they've been based in for the past 50 years or so is about 2/3 Thomann buildings by now - and I would assume that their taxes more than help pave the roads in the area. great company. _________________ http://www.regicide.org

just to let you all know this had a happy ending...
i had london-based turnkey price match thomann.de (when i spotted they had stock) and as a result my G2X is on it's way... with luck, in time for christmas.
thanks for all the advice - much appreciated. |

Holy Smoke. seems like UK dealers simply change currency symbol without touching numbers. I've bought my G2X, at LuckyMusic too, at 2100 Eurs shipping included.
Cheers,

You mentioned Absolute, thats where I got my G2 from for £1195, it was ex-demo though. Perfect condition apart from the box being a little tatty. A lot of Absolutes Clavia stuff is ex-demo. Very friendly and helpful people who always seem happy to cut a deal. _________________ Steve |

It's so positive to hear people discussing buying (aka purchasing) Nord G2s. I hope this (money) has a positive impact of modular development.
"I'd love to have a 3rd one just for master control/mixer, but time will tell." ... hey, that almost smells like "gEar p0rn" .. 2 G2s with a yamaha rs7000 (completely interconnected with each other for maximum flexibility) ought to be good enough ...

...and i'd love to get my hands on the setup you've got now!
that said, i feel pretty lucky to be able to add a G2X to my 'classic' rack & rm1x... i can't wait to start playing around with 'automating' my G1! |

you're close! I think an g2 engine is a good addition to a g2x, but not 4essential.
Having 2 nords (regardless of whether they are NM1 or g2), so one can take over when one of them is switching patches is the ideal.
