I have been checking out this active PA loudspeaker for the last eight (!) hours. It's addictive! I still can't believe it...

I have no time to write more but let me tell you something: THIS IS THE BEST LOUDSPEAKER I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE! Period! Ever!

I still can't believe it: this is a PA loudspeaker, sturdily built and made for road (ab)use... and it sounds better than any studio monitor I've ever heard (and I've heard dynaudios, genelecs, yamahas etc.) It's just out of this world.

...geez...

I indeed expect this to be very good speakers if you are so satisfied with them. I am looking now for a live monitoring system, so i searched for the price of this one:

2222 euro Exclamation

Well, good speakers don't come cheap Sad

Guess i have to save money a bit longer...

But thanks for the recommendation.

I'm not exaggerating, Howard. This thing blew our minds. A good friend and me spent eight hours -literally- just sitting in front of and listening to this thing, switching CDs and tracks, periodically looking at each other in disbelief. We've never ever heard anything like it.

I also played the Clavia G2X over it -and this has definitively wiped out all my concerns about the G2 sound quality. I've found out that the problem with the G2 is that its sound quality is too good for the average powered loudspeaker. There's too much definition for an average speaker to handle, so everything gets mushy. So then you start to crank things up and then it becomes painful. No inbetween.

I use the G2 as a live instrument, and I was always dissatisfied. It never really blended with the other instruments. I blamed this on the G2 rather than on my Schertlers, which are actually pretty good active monitors. But this is a different ballgame. It "fills" out the air with sonic information. It's eerie. Even if you stand by the side, you hear everything. It makes the G2, or any synth for that matter, feel like an acoustic instrument, in that it makes the surrounding air and your body resonate with it.

...and now, the punchline Laughing : It's, uh, err... not cheap. One of these dudes costs more than a G2X. Shocked

But the question one should ask oneself before dismissing the whole thing is: why invest thousands of bucks in tone generators if you then hook them up to second rate transducers?

I realised when listening to this thing that what is being thought of as "keyboards" or "synthesizer instruments", is only half of the equation. It's like thinking of a piano keyboard and hammer action together with the stringed frame, and leaving out the the resonating body.

It's interesting to note that these speakers have been rated under the best by an audiophile hi-fi magazine. It's funny: a rugged active PA speaker to be recommended by hi-fi audiophile freaks! But that's the sonic league we are talking about here.

Wow.

They are expensive, but for a PA they aren't outrageous. A PA you can use in your studio as monitors is great. I'll keep and ear open for these. I haven't seen them in the USA, but I haven't been looking for speakers or PAs.

Moving this to Reviews from Gear News. Wink
