Why we use PayPal

We did quite a bit of research on the subject of online credit card processing. We found that there are many companies who provide merchant accounts and processing gateways, but virtually all have minimum monthly fees. For a small startup operation like electro-music.com, these monthly fees are prohibitive. We found that PayPal offers us the best solution for processing credit card orders and for transferring funds to artists.

PayPal offers us secure credit card processing with no monthly fees.

Since we transfer all credit card processing over to their secure SHTTP server, we don't have to buy a digital certificate for our server.

PayPal is owned by EBAY, the largest online auction business. Their server is very reliable and secure. PayPal's service is excellent.

Buyers of CDs don't have to get a PayPal account.

By using PayPal to process credit card orders, we do not have to keep customers' card numbers in our database. In fact, we don't ever see this information. We think this protects our customers, and ourselves.

The only downside is that the fee PayPal charges for each credit card transaction is relatively high, about 3%.

We pay our artists through PayPal as well. Artists can get a PayPal account for free. There is no monthly maintenance charge. PayPal can be setup to transfer funds directly to the artist's bank account, again at no charge. There are no fees when transferring from one PayPal account to another. It's an instantanious transfer.

There is an online record of fund transfers that is available to both parties. We think this could minimize disputes and misunderstandings.

More information can be found at the PayPal web site: http://www.paypal.com

now that many electro-music.com members are from outside the U.S.A. we should investigate the paypal solution.
if you go to
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/approved_countries-outside
you will see that PayPal accepts withdrawals to local bank accounts in selected countries like mine but users in those countries may withdraw funds only to a U.S. bank account.
That's certainly a limitation because I would need to open an American bank account to receive payments for any sale through paypal.
Am I right?

Looks like you can have PayPal money go in your local Italian account, Carlo.

When you set up your account, you give them your bank account number and a rounting number. They test this by sending you some very small amount, like 8 cents or something. You verify the exact amount, so they know they have the right connection.

When I receive money in the electro-music.com account from CD sales, I transfer your profits to your PayPal account. You can use the money for people who accept PayPal, like EBay and electro-music.com, or have them transfer your money into your local bank account.

Importantly, if you are an Non-U.S. User and do not reside in a Withdrawal Country, please note that you may not be able to withdraw funds from your PayPal Account and should therefore only accept payments if you know you will send payments in equal amounts out of your account. For more details and guidelines about withdrawals, please refer to our Payments Policy.

Looks like to me that both Norway and Italy are withdrawal countries.

I couldn't paraphrases the PayPal legal agreement. I've never had any problmes with them and for the relatively small amounts of money we are talking about here, this seems to be the way to go.

If you live in a PayPal non-withdrawl country, I'll send a check.

Nah... only the countries makred with the cross are withdrawal countries.

Italy is not marked with a cross.. France and Norway and a few more are..

Huh?

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/approved_countries-outside

Looks like Italy, France, and Norway have the same double-cross. At least on my browser.

I guess they do not have updated all their pages so in a few of them Italy is a "withdrawal" country in others it is not.
Today I have registered but I am not really sure what's going on.
I'll try to withdraw some money and see what happen Idea Shocked

OK, but first you must have some funds in the account to withdraw. Smile

i find the fees associated with using paypal are way too high. i have to offset my prices with it, and it pushes away customers. for my credit card processing, now i use http://www.onlinecheck.com/merchant_accounts/credit_card_processing.html and don't have any problems.

Carolec`s post seems to be part of a viral marketing scheme.

That said, it also seems that the various links posted by the viral marketeers indicates that this might be part of a much larger phishing scheme.

Anyways..

Might be, then, after all. Philly is one of the places they serve.

There was a spam attack on the mail server yesterday resulting in thousands of mails bouncing all around. This could have caused the problem, mosc will know more about that, but maybe a retry helps.

If your friend still has problems, please have him contact me with this form. I try extra hard to read these messages promptly. Be sure to have him include his username.
