the live experimental electronic scene---midwest Subject description: chicago venues, the scene, what's going on... |
|
|
For those of you that live in the midwest, and especially
those that are in Chicago, you know about how the scene
works our here.
Chicago is truly the house capital of the world, take it or
leave it. DrumNbass & jungle are around and somewhat
visible at certain locations, once a month, or at loft parties,
but what about the experimental electronic scene. where's
that happening?
There are the locations, sonotheque, rodan, hotti biscotti,
lava lounge...all sometimes though. I can't think of one
regular nite that you can bet to experience out there idm,
ambient, or drillNBass. There is 6odium, but they aren't
big on advertising, and have shows only once or twice a
month. 3030 was a nice spot for all things considered experimental
for quite some time, when they got shutdown not 3 months ago.
This thread is here to talk about the Chicago IDM scene and
other related musics. Places to witness this kind of music,
post here. This isn't limited to just chicago too. if you're
anywhere in the midwest, this thread is here for you to
post of what's going on where you are! _________________ "jazz isn't dead, you just think it iz!" |

i think of one awesome location.... muse cafe!
seriously though and i've said it many times, chicago really needed a place like muse. the places you mentioned above are cool, but it's nice knowing i can pretty much show up at a place and hear some cool music (although time hasn't actually allowed me to do that yet, sigh). _________________ music: teamabunai.org/oao

Psymbolic, that nite sounds great! i'll have to check the place
out on a nite we dont' have a Sonic Foundry event running.
too bad i missed the m50 show, I regularly list on his m50.net
website and speak with him about our regulars.
Judging from the calender, the club serves food? what kind
of place is this? cuisine? _________________ "jazz isn't dead, you just think it iz!" |

F212 is a coffee/dessert lounge.
They serve great food, from paninis to lobster pot pie to mac&cheese
The setting is nice & laid back with free wifi

Psymbolic, i checkedout the site for F212, looks dope.
soundz very similar to Muse Cafe, but possibly more
loungy. Muse Cafe is an urban cafe lounge, but pushes
the coffeehouse vibe during the day (sandwiches, homemade
soups, quiche, hummus...tons of espresso creations, house
classics, coffee, and desserts/pastries).
You know, i was thinking, even though these two chicago
venues have similar vibe, and similar wednesdays, I think
that's awesome. I'm planning on coming out this wednesday
to meet you cats, and see asmadeus (sic).
What would be dope, is a collaborative effort of some sort.
We aren't on a regular basis just yet, and our times for
the shows aren't as long ranging (usually 7-10pm). We
also have the free wi-fi, and the BYOB. Perhaps there
could be some mini-fests between our establishments
in the coming future, along with other spots we're connecting
with such as Rodan and Sonotheque. peace
look for the blond spikey guy on wednesday if you're gonna
be there. can't wait to checkout your place. and feel free
to stopby anytime to my cafe, 817 n milwaukee ave
