When I turn on the micro mod it displays Ud.

You can't use it like that, so I keep on unplugging replugging it until it says good old 3.0

Most of the time it works ok on the second power up, but sometimes it can take up to about 50 power up/down cycles before it works.

So what does Ud mean and why is it doing this?

I've no clue what "Ud" could mean ... but not booting might be a sign of a loose chip - I think it's big brother, the Classic, has a boot chip in a socket, so maybe the micro has that as well ?

If so you could try to press the chip down again and see if that helps.

Yeah, what's up with the micro? BTW, contacting Armadillo in Florida might actually be better then trying Clavia. I've talked to Jason there and he was most helpful in answering the many questions I had concerning Nord Synth repair and maintenance. You can find contact info for Armadillo on Clavias' web site in the distributor section. Good luck, mate.

Are you seeing a Ud message on the LCD of your MicroModular? No problem as long as you have a 9v 500ma PSU.

The problem is the little copper connector inside the SHIFT button that makes a constant connection while powering up the synth.

Over a long time the black rectangular buttons tend to collect dust, get greasy and sticky, and somehow make a constant connection.

To fix this issue I removed the 4 screws holding the top plate. Then I stuck a thin flat head screw driver on one longer side of the button to loosen the top plastic piece clip and then lifted the top plastic piece. Under it lies a copper clip connector. I then removed the copper connector and made sure that it's clean and has enough play so when the top plastic piece is back on, it doesn't make a constant connection. As soon as any of the buttons made a constant connection the synth won't work, so check other buttons as well. Make sure the buttons have play, if they don't have play, then you will see weird messages like "Ud" on the Micromodular.

Earlier I realized the buttons were sticky when pressed so I opened them up to clean the grease and by mistake on purpose added more tension to the copper clip connectors by bending them. This added force to the press but also made the shift button constantly pressed, even without me pressing it, and therefore displaying the solid (not flashing) "Ud" message. Hope this helps.
