when mosc posted the link to Visual Analyser .
i thought that there are some other softwares that can help you on DIY. so here are some that i use. - please post yours.

Evil Genius - Resistor Attack:
A game by Dave Cutcher to teach resistor colour codes. To play move left and right using the arrow keys. 'Shoot' at the attacking resistor by pressing the number key corresponding to the resistor colour. E.g. to kill a yellow resistor move below it and press 4, for a red resistor press 2. Click here to download the game (ZIP file 507kB).

Electronics Assistant:
Electronics Assistant is a Windows-based program which performs electronics-related calculations. It includes a resistor colour code calculator, resistance, capacitance and power calculations and more. Details of calculations can be saved or printed. Stand-alone user friendly program.
If you run on Win this is a must -

When you get bored of 30V,and start eye-ing up dem nasty big HTs....these programs are the ).....(
http://www.glass-ware.com/GlassWare_Programs.htm

elektor have a crippleware of the filter designer.
I'm just about to add a dedicated vco psu and John Broskie's latestblog at
http://www.tubecad.com/
has an argument for using chokes to hyperclean 24V supplies.
No doubt i'll end up with discrete vcos powered by valve regulated psu.....! Razz

If you want to design your own PCBs, you should check out EagleCAD which comes with a freeware non-profit licence. It includes a schematic editor, a parts layout editor, and it'll (semi-)automatically work out the copper traces underneath.

CircuitMaker once released a free student version of their circuit simulation program, but they've recently been bought out by a bunch of wankers. "Our goal is to give every electronic engineer and system designer easy access to the best possible design tools. " Thats nice, and thanks for removing the free download.

I think I "saw" that program on Limewire last year......hmm.... Wink

I'm still waiting for that magical program that will include audio output when running a simulation.

This may not be an "official" download, but free is free.

http://www.rexfisher.com/Software_Downloads.htm

I'd give a direct link to the download, but there's some other good stuff on that page, too, that you might want to check out.

I, too, am waiting for a circuit simulator that will let me pipe the output to my sound card. Wouldn't replace the real thing, but it would make for some mighty-fine simulation.

In fact, I have yet to find a circuit simulator that I like. What is everybody's favorite circuit simulator? I know most are just GUIs for the old SPICE code... Are any of them actually intuitive to use? I haven't found one yet.

hey whats up? i use "electronics workbench multisim 7" for simulation now. i uhh got it from a friend of mine.... or a few friends of mine in torrents. i like it pretty well, my computer is pertty slow to use it though. jus gotta be patient.

i have used circuitmaker 2000 in the past, though, din't like it nearly asmuch.

Nice. I'll try out their demo. It's a real shame they charge $2000 and up for that software.

I didn't like Curcuitmaker much either. It's schematic capture interface pretty much sucks compared to Eagle. If only eagle had simulation. It's already got autorouting and nice PCB layout on top of the nice schematic capture. But maybe I'm just used to eagle. I used it for three years at my last job, so I'm really quick with it.

I used electronics workbench very briefly back in school, but that was years ago and a much older version. I don't remember much about it.

heya-

wow is it that much? dannnng. i'd really like to check it out on a better computer, it's perrrty good as-is, but the simulation runs awful slow when you reach any complexity of a circuit. i just go do something else for a few minutes then come back. one thing i dig is the ability to create sub-circuits. im sure alot of these softwares do this.

anyway if you want it, i can probably get it to you somehow [multisim 7, i mean, i also have a slightly older version]. the way it was given to me. i'll see.

hey you are in SF? i might be moving up there in a coupla weeks, if i get a place by then. im excited. packing up all my junk, putting it into storage. a break from the obsessed nerd-dom and asocial night-creature habits will do me good! here's to summer!

Don't let these outdated opinions about circuit simulation stand in the way of substantial increases in your productivity.

“… is too expensive.”
Multisim is available from under $2,000, providing powerful and complete simulation capabilities at a cost-effective price.

And that's just for the simulator. If you get the full suite that includes all of the PCB design tools, etc, you're looking at the cost of a used car. Daaayaaamn is right.

Their market is big corporate electronics places, not us folk.

Yeah, I live downtown (SOMA area - South Of MArket street) and I work at Dolby Labs and Recombinant Media Labs. When you're in town you should check out Robotspeak on Haight street. That place is great!

In fact, just over last weekend I was hanging out there and met a guy from Boston who's moving out. Seems like everybody's moving to SF these days. It's a great place to be for checking out the latest electronic music and equipment.

If you make it here, let me know. I can introduce you to some synth builders Smile

just added them Smile

it´s a shame that there are only few people that upload links to our DIY-links section. I'm sure we all have nice links. so let´s go people - to the links section to share your bookmarks

thanks

Yes great finds Dnny.

I like Eagle for PCB, and am trying to use Octave for some simulation... more theoretical stuff, since my work uses alot of Matlab. But I don't use it much, since the Nord G2 does a pretty fun job of those types of things. Learning is maybe a better word.

I can't get the 555 timer to work, it gives me an error message on startup. Anyone else having this problem?
