Subject description: Can't get external sync for arp
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I am trying to get my XT to sync to my Q Rack's arp tempo, but I havn't been able to get it to work. I have the Q sending, and the XT I have tried to sync external, but to no avail. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Hmm, I have heard someone complain about the very thing recently.. but I cannot quite remember if this truly is a bug or an OS feature or whatever.
Question

I sync my XT to an external clock, so it should be possible.

I agree egw, i sync my XT all the time (with logic audio mind you) so what you're trying to do should work.

I've got my Q rack hooked to the XT via the Midi Thru of the Q to the In on the XT. On the Q's Global I have it sending midi info. The XT I have set for receive MIDI. When I'm in an arp, I change the clock to internal and/or external. Neither clock setting will allow me to get the same tempo as the Q. What am I doing wrong? I want the Q to set the tempo for the XT.

Could it be that the clock is only sent on midi out? Would make sense to me that it is not sent on midi thru.

That makes sense. I'll check that out. But how would you get two modules sync'd together? I tried going Midi Out from the Q to the XT and nothing worked.

Are you sure that your Q rack is sending clock?
If it is also synced externally, it won't send clock out.
Normally, midi out only contains signals generated by the device.
And midi through contains only signals that come into the midi in, not genreated internally.

It seems the only way I'll be able to do this with a rack is to somehow merge the midi with some kind of merge device.
