Bananized Doepfer |
|
|
I've seen on an ebay auction for a massive Serge System some Doepfer modules customized to be used with banana plugs.
Do you know how much may be useful (and difficult) this mod?
Cheers,

See this post - not Serge or Doepfer - but relevant.
That's a nice toy - _________________ --Howard

I should have mentioned when I quoted that, that it came from here:
http://www.blacet.com/tech.html
Scroll down about 3/4 of the page.
The spacings might differ a little between Doepfer and Blacet stuff, so covering up lettering may or may not be an issue. They use the same kind of 1/8" jacks (I think), so the ammount of boring/drilling out you'd have to do should be similar.. So the only problem it might cause is when switching jacks are used. You could always install a toggle switch nearby... or devise some kind of mechanical switch that gets hit by a banana plug being inserted.
The real benefit, of course, is stackable banana plugs. No more panel space wasted with multiples! |

I've never tried a banana jack synthesiser. The stackable plugs are quite high aren't they? Would stacks of plugs get in the way of the knobs? Can you stack three plugs and still expect it to be stable mechanically?
Just curious. |

I've only ever used a half-broken Buchla, and not for very long. I couldn't really say, but I think that one was designed to have enough room around the jacks.
A synth that wasn't built with stacked plugs in mind could very well get cramped. I considered using banana instead of 1/8" on the Blacet stuff I'm getting, but I think I'll just stick to the way it was designed. If I ever get any banana stuff, I'll just make some banana > 1/8" > 1/4" multiples or something. |

Good banana patch cords are great. You can plug in the top and the side, so getting three connections out is very easy and stable. Not only are they more flexible from the stacking point of view, but the connections are much better than 1/4" plugs. _________________ --Howard
