GROOVE TUBES DEBUTS THE “GLORY COMP” AT NAMM

New All-Tube Compressor Combines Terrific Feature Set With Excellent Sonic Personality

http://www.groovetubes.com/

January 15, 2004 ( Anaheim , CA ) – Groove Tubes has introduced the Glory Comp, an all-tube compressor designed for serious recording applications. The Glory Comp will be available through Groove Tubes Pro Audio retailers in Spring 2004, with retail price of $2,999 (USD).

“The Glory Comp was created with the same mindset we used for our award-winning ViPRE mic preamp, which was to spare no expense in creating the very best tube compressor ever made,” says Aspen Pittman, Groove Tubes founder and CEO. “In addition to its incredible sonic character, Glory Comp offers features that have never been found on compression devices at any price.”

The Groove Tubes Glory Comp is a true all-tube compressor, employing seven high-quality and selected vacuum tubes to accomplish its dynamics processing. Its output tubes – a pair of 6005s – offer tremendous output power driving a custom wound and robust output transformer (the Glory Comp can actually drive a speaker all on its own!). Glory Comp's fully differential and floating design includes dual isolated output taps on its proprietary output transformer so it can interface with both -10dBV and +4dBu signal levels without sacrificing signal quality or degrading noise specs. Compression ratios from 1:1 to 10:1 are available, as are standard Attack, Release and compression Threshold controls. In addition to release times from 10ms to 2 seconds, users can choose between logarithmic and linear release modes. Like the ViPRE, the Glory Comp implements several high-quality ceramic multi-decked switches (instead of less expensive potentiometers), allowing for easily repeatable settings. Also like the ViPRE, the Glory Comp provides a custom-built, backlit VU meter that can display in seven different modes.

The Glory Comp also features a built-in sidechain EQ with adjustable low and high frequency filters, using an internal or external sidechaining source selector. Completely unique to the Glory Comp is the Glory knob, which affects 2 nd -order harmonics. This innovative feature is perfect for bringing out a vocal or a solo instrument in a mix. The Glory knob's labeling allows adjustment between Earth (no effect) and Heaven (full effect).

Pittman continues, “Engineers who liked our ViPRE will love the Glory because it is just what they have been asking for: a no compromise, transparent, rich all tube compressor with virtually NO trade - off in frequency response loss even in the most compressed settings (unlike many of today's high end compressors). Like the ViPRE, it just does ‘one thing'…but it does it very, very well.”

I give this baby an A+ in style. Very beautiful.

For my money, I'd by a G2 and use the $1000 left over to go visit Norway again. Rob Hordjik designed a tube emulation patch for the Nord Modular. We could get into another analog vs. digital debate, but it all goes digital sooner or later so what's the point. Still, this is a beauty.

To bad they didn't crop the picture to get rid of the water glasses the beast is sitting on. Wink

Very Happy
Yes, this one demands an A+.

We have had some analog versus digital debates here I guess. Analog devices like this one are just great. Analog gear will be around for a very long time. But State Of The Art analog gear comes at a price. Anyway, analog signal processing will develop and hopefully some of the new gear will be available at more decent prices.

That plan of yours sounds excellent Howard!

There is no debate. Nobody argues between plasma screens and film cameras, although they do take issue with film versus digital photography, which is more like debating analog versus digital synthesis. Then you have things like Pixar and Final Fantasy, which werent even shot, they were rendered. Never "analog," per se. Similar, actually, to alot of my work. The majority of what I do now is DDDD.

About film though, inversely, it isnt the pic quality people get concerned about, it's the animation. In other words, the content. The music, if you will. People need to understand the applications being discussed before diving into the fray in this A/D riot. People need to focus on making music and stop all this assumed elitist crap.

I'll go to Norway with you. I owe 80 a ticklin'.
